8. In a roundabout way
When someone does not tell you in a straightforward or direct way or takes a long time to get to the point, we can say that they have a roundabout way of saying things. In other words, If you do or say something in a roundabout way, you do not do or say it in a simple, clear, and direct way. It has negative meaning,
Ex: He told us, in a very roundabout way, that he was thinking of leaving
From the explanation and examples above, we can see that an idiom is a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words. The words in idioms lose their own meaning and they carry another meaning with other words. For instance, At the crossroads means if someone is at the crossroad, he or she has to make a decision. Here crossroad lose its real meaning like a place where two roads meet and cross each other.
