Part 2: Introduction to CW 2 (synoptic assessment) CW 2 Synoptic Assessment • A synoptic assessment combines two or more modules of study into a one assessment. To put it simply, students need to produce and submit one coursework for two or more modules. Each module will then assess the coursework from different angels. • Synoptic assessment is done with the I, Citizen module in the second component of summative assessment of Academic English. • You are expected to write one report for I, Citizen and Academic English modules (a synoptic assessment). In a small group of 3-4 students, produce a report of 2000 (minimum)- 2200 (maximum) words. The report should be based on problem-solution oriented research. As the report is a group-work assessment, the final mark will be the same for all members (for the content, language and structure) of the group. Note that the group allocation will be done by your I, Citizen lecturer. • AE module assess the language and structure of the report while I, Citizen module will focus on the content. More instructions will also be provided by I, Citizen lecturers. Key Guidelines A) Identify a real-life problem related to one of the recommended topics below or find a topic by yourself. If you choose the topic out of the list, you need to have it approved by your I, Citizen
• Human rights, gender equality and children’s rights • Impact of social media on society and culture • Celebrities and role models • Environmental degradation, environmental footprint and wastage • Wildlife and biodiversity • Food consumption, dieting, and vegetarianism • Mobility and immigration • Diversity and inclusivity • Culture, traditions and customs Key Guidelines B) Define/explain the problem clearly. C) Analyze your primary and secondary data and generate potential solutions. D) Write a 2000 - 2200- word report based on your data analysis. Follow the recommended structure for your report: • Executive Summary • Table of contents • Introduction • Literature Review • Methods (Research instruments) • Results • Discussion • Conclusion • Recommendation • Appendix
