In many countries, fast food is becoming cheaper and more widely available.
Do the disadvantages of this outweigh the advantages?
In some parts of the world, the cost of fast food is shrinking as its availability is rising. While there are certain advantages to this trend, this essay will explain why I believe these are outweighed by the damage which can be caused by low-cost, easily accessible fast food.
To begin with the benefits, the decreasing price of fast food means that it has become more affordable for people on low incomes. This is beneficial because it can help these individuals to save money, which can be directed towards higher aims, such as greater education possibilities. With respect to the increasing availability of fast food, this has the positive effect of providing the consumer with more choice. As a result, this trend allows people to feel a greater sense of autonomy, which can be empowering.
However, these advantages need to be considered in light of the drawbacks, and the most concerning of these is the impact fast food has on public health. It is no secret that fast food is notorious for its paucity of nutritional value and, conversely, overabundance of salt, sugar and trans fats. This combination is why such food has been linked to obesity, diabetes and cardiac problems. Consequently, the economic burden placed on health services as a result of such trends may become unmanageable, which would overwhelm the aforementioned advantages.
In conclusion, despite the benefits which increasingly affordable and available fast food might present, such as saving people money and offering more options, these advantages are insignificant in comparison with the harm to public health which could be caused by this trend.

Nowadays more and more older people who need employment have to compete with younger people for the same jobs.
What problems does this cause?
What are the solutions?
In recent years, there has been an increase in job competition between older and younger people for the same openings. This essay will explore some of the issues that have resulted from this trend and suggest some solutions.
To begin with, one of the most significant problems is that of technological proficiency across both generations. This is because the majority of today’s companies rely on modern technology to run their operations, but it tends to be that younger workers have grown up as digital natives, whereas older people are often at a disadvantage due to their relative lack of technological experience. This, for instance, is why young people are usually faster at typing. To minimise this problem, workshops should be provided for older hires, which would reduce the proficiency gap and limit employment discrimination on the basis of age.
Furthermore, another concern to examine is that this generational conflict may breed resentment across both sides of the divide. While those of the older generation, who tend to be more experienced, may resent having to compete with young people as it might feel undignified, those of the younger generation might feel that they have to work harder than is fair to prove their worth. Addressing this issue involves companies hiring an equal number of people from both age groups and subsequently emphasising the strengths of each to one another. This would ideally enable older workers to see the value of younger ones and vice versa, thus mitigating resentment.
In conclusion, the difficulties with the fierce competition among older and younger people for the same positions are skill-based and societal. However, these can be tackled via appropriate company policies concerning training and diversity.
