    • Pike first rose to prominence playing for the Philadelphia Athletics, joining the National Association team in 1866.

    • He had both power and speed, hitting many home runs as well as being one of the fastest players around.

    • Official records were first kept when Lip was 26 years old, playing for the Troy Haymakers in the National Association in 1871

    • At age 31, he played in the first year of the National League for the St. Louis Brown Stockings. He was ranked the fourth best player on the team.
