My insights from the lectures.
It is rightly said that “A teacher must not only teach but inspire and motivate.” And for this, it is very essential for a teacher to teach in an effective manner that can ensure maximum learning output. No doubt, language teaching and learning are a complex process, and what works in one context may fail in another. But it is very important for a teacher to have a proper understanding of various methods and approaches so that he or she can at once decide which teaching method to adopt according to the classroom situation and requirements of the learners. Therefore, it can be said that any method that works is good. Apart from this, another important thing is that the objectives of teaching language should be clear to us. The objectives and aims of teaching English in Uzbekistan should be well understood by the teachers and the learners, only then real teaching and learning of English will be possible. For this purpose, I am really keen on Comparative teaching methodology lectures at the beginning as I realize that I should be a professional and qualified teacher in my ongoing career.
As an English school teacher, I should confess that I made some mistakes and had difficulties in drawing pupils` attention to my lessons. In order to do that, I must be aware of innovative teaching approaches and methods to integrate into the lessons. As a result of our lectures, I learned a lot about language teaching techniques, useful teaching games, the stages of learning process, various activities based on all the four skills and integrated teaching, types of tasks, teachers`motivation, language acquisition, assessment criterias and so on. Learning these things helped me to improve my teaching style during my school lessons as I applied them in a particular way. Day by day, I started to get a lot of good feedbacks from the lessons and my pupils are very eager to participate in English lessons and be active. That change is the result of listening the lectures carefully.
Moreover, our teacher gave us a number of really useful books to read and learn as a textbook during the lectures. They were very informative and full of tasks. “ Language learning in early childhood in Lightbown& Spada”, “Approaches and Methods in language teaching” are the best examples of the textbooks. Every lecture we read the chapters and did some speaking or pre-reading or post reading tasks as homework. In fact, they were really helpful. For example, in one lecture I read about how to correct pupils` mistakes and types of feedbacks. Feedback types were new thing for and I understand it plays an essential role in teaching. So I understand that process of my teaching L2 students, I have always given wrong feedback for them. But, after reading this chapter I realize how it is important to give right feedback for learners.
In a conclusion. the lectures of this subject were very enjoyable despite of missing one or two lectures due to some reasons. The thing which I really appreciate at the lectures is that the teacher explained the theme and discuss some topic-related questions among us and all the students who are mostly teachers answered the questions based on their experience. In some cases, they offered some new teaching techniques with each other. The discussions and the lectures were unforgettable for me.
