Homer wrote about the war of Troy in his poem, Iliad. The war started because of Paris and Helen. Helen was the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris, the prince of' Troy, wanted her to be with him. Helen was already married to the King of Sparta, Menelaus. Paris went to visit Helen. At night they ran away and returned to Troy. King Menelaus was furious, The Greeks fought for 10 years. However, The Greeks couldn't get through the wall of the city. They decided to play a trick on the Trojans. The Greeks built a big wooden horse and left it as a gift. The Trojans pulled the horse into the city. The Greek soldiers came out of the horse at night. They opened the city gates and let the army in. Troy was finally defeated.
