CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
The Painted Veil is an interesting work to analyze. In fact, this title was
taken from the first line of Percy Byshe Shelley‟s sonnet which sounds, “Lift not
the painted veil which those who live / call life.” This is a story about love with
the heroine, Kitty Garstin, sacrificing her life with death risk caused by cholera in
the deep forest of China, trying to dig her heart to be given to her husband. After
finding out her husband‟s worth, he died.
This film is filled with prominent actress and actors. The two main
protagonists were played by Naomi Watts (Kitty Garstin) and Edward Norton
(Walter Fane). The Painted Veil is a drama romance film which was released in
2006.
