4.18.2 Interpretation of Results. After the hot-water jet treatment, the adhesive tape shall not exhibit cracks or
visible damage. Dislocation or opening of the wrapping to such an extent that cables lay bare is not allowed.
Special observations shall be noted in the test report
.
4.19 Dielectric Strength (Splice Tape Only) This test only needs to be done with tapes that are used for splicing
and therefore have special electrical insulation requirements.
4.19.1 Test Sample/Procedure. Use an approximately 50 cm long 0.5 mm
2
PVC cable. Remove a 20 mm long
section of insulation from the center. Insulate the exposed area with 50 mm width triple layer of the tape to be
tested. Apply aluminum foil over the adhesive tape. Apply a test voltage of 1 kV (50 Hz to 60 Hz) for a duration
of 1 minute then increase the voltage at a rate of 500 V/s until dielectric breakdown.
