The capital of Uzbekistan is the largest political, economic and cultural center in Central Asia, with a population of more than 2 million. Today, Tashkent is not only a political center with a strategic international position, but also an important economic metropolis at the largest industrial-transport crossroads in Central Asia. The residence of the President of Uzbekistan, the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as representations of foreign embassies, the UN and its international organizations are located in Tashkent. The city is being rebuilt mentally. Industry, the leading sector of the capital's economy, remains as important as ever. Industrial enterprises not only have great capacity, but also high production technology.  The city's energy is based on the Chirchik-Bozsuv hydropower system and the Tashkent TPP. They are connected to the country's only energy system. Tashkent is an important transport hub. Railways and highways connecting Central Asia with other countries pass through Tashkent. The city is also connected to the surrounding areas by electric trains. Tashkent is connected by air with more than forty cities of foreign countries. The city has 2 railway stations, 3 airports and the only metro in Central Asia. With a total length of more than thirty-six kilometers, the subway carries more than sixty million passengers a year.
