Most of the drugs commonly dispensed fall into three categories: 1) solids; 2) semisolids; 3) liquids.

A lot of drugs manufactured by pharmaceutical industry in a solid state greatly differ in shape, size and colour. They are powders, granules, tablets, lozenges, globules, capsules and pills.
Solid medicinal forms are mainly administered internally.
Semisolid medicinal preparations usually having fatty material as petrolatum, lard, wool fat as a base differ in shapes, consistency and methods of application. They are ointments, salves, liniments, suppositories, pills and plasters.
All semisolids are used externally for local application.
Liquid forms of drugs are extracts, infusions, tinctures, mixtures, solutions, decoctions, sprays, syrups, drops, lotions etc. It is the largest group of drugs.
Liquid forms of drugs are used both internally and externally.




Topic: My future profession
There are a lot of interesting and useful professions but I like the profession of a pharmacist (engineer-technologist). Now I am a student of the Tashkent pharmaceutical institute. It is the only institute in our republic which trains pharmacists and technologists. In 4 or 5 years I will be able to become a specialist in pharmacy or industrial pharmacy.
We must remember that it is not easy to become a good specialist. A good specialist must have not only deep knowledge of different branches of chemistry and special subjects. He must give all his strength, knowledge and abilities to people who need his help. He has to devote all his life to the protection of people’s health. A good pharmacist must love people and have a kind heart.
Now I do all my best to acquire good knowledge on chemistry, pharmacognozy, pharmacology and other special subjects. I am sure that good knowledge of English will help me in my future profession.
