Table 2 shows that 12% of all observations are host municipalities, whereas 2.7% of all 
observations correspond to host municipalities in the post-FIFA World Cup 2010 period. 
The unemployment and population figures are yearly numbers for the municipalities. The 
development of the unemployment and population in the nine host municipalities is compared 
to the development of the non host municipalities in figure 2 below.

Figure 2 illustrates that the development in the two groups show largely the same trend for 
unemployment. In the beginning the unemployment in host municipalities drops below the 
unemployment of the non host municipalities onwards until 2009. However from 2008 
onwards the unemployment in the host municipalities rose more strongly than in the non host 
municipalities, resulting in higher unemployment numbers from 2009 onwards. The 
characteristics of the dependent variable are summarized in table 3.
