The pictures illustrate the changes the local park named “Grange” underwent over the period of 100 years. (1920-present days).

Overall, it’s noticeable from the illustrations that during this period the park has experienced massive changes, which means it has rearranged most of its sections and faced some modernization.

In 1990, the office had two entrances, north gate by the Arnold Avenue and south gate by Eldon street. In the center, there was a fountain and a stage for musicians on the left side of the fountain. Besides, there also were rose gardens in three different corners of the park. On the right of the south entrance there was placed a glasshouse with pond for watering plants in the opposite side. The former structure of the park also included five blocks of seats, four on the left, one on the right of the south entrance.

Nowadays, the Grange park looks completely different. The fountain which used to decorate the park has been removed and replaced with the big rose garden furnished with four blocks of seats around. There also appeared children’s play area instead of basin for watering plants. The glasshouse has also been knocked down and substituted with a unique water feature. The previous stage for concerts obtained another image and shifted to right-on amphitheatre for concerts. Moreover, the park has been modernized by adding underground car park by the south entrance and a café by the north entrance.

Task 2.

With the recent development of modern communication and information technologies there has been occurring considerable changes in the sphere of employment, which means individuals are chosing themselves whether to be employed or work on their own. Current days, majority of people prefer to be self-employed rather than serving in organizations. In this essay, I will state the main reasons for opting to work from home and will enumerate potential disadvantages.

There are several reasons for selecting to be self-employed. The primary reason is the pressure proceeded by the directors or principals of the organizations. Instead of sitting in the office and listening to harsh criticisms and strict orders of the boss, the employees think it is better to work independently work and feel free. The next reason that encourages individuals to opt for self-employment is the rules and regulations of the office. One would have to follow the dress code, meal times and short breaks, on top of it, strict deadlines. Some people do not like this notion and like to work according to their own rules and timing. Moreover, working from home is adventageous especially for women who choose to be freelancers combining family obligations and office work without fixed schedule. This means women employed by themselves have a chance to work flexible hours and without pressure.

However, being self-employed has some disadvantages. The main drawback of working on their own could be the shortage of stable income. That is to say, it will take quite a long time to establish themselves in their fields and build a stable organization that will guarantee a regular wage. In addition, working independently means being highly responsible and requires a great deal of self-discipline to flourish in the chosen option. If a person is not punctual or communicative enough to meet the demands of the possible customers, he will lose clients. Furthermore, skipping deadlines and set targets will lead to difficulties that will cause, as a consequence, to lose a freelance job.

In summary, the desire of freedom or personal conditions may urge some people to become self-employed, however, the lack of discipline and missing out set targets may be the reason of losing a job, and one should outweigh superiorities and inferiorities of the case and make their final decision on their own.
