Basic properties of conductive materials

  • Conductivity (s) :
  • The conductivity (s) is the reciprocal of electrical resistivity of the material. The units of conductivity are mhos/cm. It is the property of a material due to which the electric current flows easily through the material. In other words it provides an easy path to the flow of electric current through the material.
  • Tensile Strength :
  • Strength of a material is defined as the ability to resist load without failure. Tensile strength is therefore tie ability of the material resist a stretching (tensile) load without fracture. Therefore the tensile strength gives an indication of the conductor limit within which it has to be used and beyond which excessive deformation or fracture takes place. It is expressed in load per unit cross sectional area.

Basic concepts of construction materials

  • Construction materials are materials that absorb force, fall into the grain, are made of construction details, and have good physical, mechanical, and chemical properties. There are metallic, non-metallic and composite, casting types. Among the metal construction materials, steel is the most common; except for cast iron, aluminum alloys, beryllium alloys, tungsten alloys, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, chromium alloys and other construction materials. According to the technological characteristics, the materials are prepared by deformation (rolling, pressing, stamping), casting, welding, baking, gluing; according to the conditions of use, to materials used at normal, low and high temperatures (refractory alloys, refractory concrete); according to the structure, ferritic and austenitic steels; according to the type of reinforcement, it is divided into types that can be obtained, improved, dispersed-reinforced (with dispersed particles that are difficult to dissolve), aging, according to the strength indicator (high-strength steel and cast iron). Mechanical properties of construction materials (structural strength, fire resistance, viscosity, fire resistance, corrosion resistance, etc.) determine their quality indicators
  • Building materials can generally be divided into two categories: Natural building materials such as stone and wood, and Man-made building materials such as concrete and steel. Both categories usually require a certain level of preparation or treatment before the use in a structural application. Below is the list of materials I used the most in engineering consulting projects.
