Title: A Comparative Study on the Effectiveness of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Method in Improving Students' Speaking Abilities Introduction: The article discusses a research study conducted at SMAN 7 Sidrap in Indonesia, which aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method with the conventional teaching method in improving students' speaking abilities. The author highlights the importance of practical application of English language learning theories and emphasizes the use of language as a tool for communication. Methods: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a total sample size of 40 students from two classes: 10 MIPA 1 as the experimental class and 10 MIPA 2 as the control class. The study used the independent sample t-test to analyze the data and determine any significant differences between the two methods. Results: The findings of the study indicate that there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the CLT method and the conventional method. The CLT method was found to be more effective in improving students' speaking abilities. Discussion: The research addresses a significant issue faced by students in Indonesia, wherein they struggle to apply their theoretical knowledge of English language learning in practical situations. By comparing the CLT method with the conventional method, the study provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of different teaching approaches. The use of a quasi-experimental design and a control group adds rigor to the study, allowing for a comparison between the two methods. The findings suggest that the CLT method, which emphasizes communication as a primary goal, is more successful in enhancing students' speaking skills. Conclusion: The article concludes that the CLT method is more effective than the conventional method in improving students' speaking abilities. The research contributes to the existing literature on language teaching methodologies and provides support for the adoption of CLT in language classrooms. Download 3.64 Kb.
