Abstract: This article discusses the main tasks of teaching which is the noblest
profession, the important role of teachers not only in education but also in the teaching
process, their professional ethics, their role as creators of the learning and teaching
environment, and their attitude to learners, their commitment and accountabilities. It
also provides information on what the teaching is, its objectives and aims of it,
Oakeshott’s description of the word, and examples of this which he gave.
Keywords: teacher, teaching process, noblest profession, professional ethics,
Paula Coelho, Orlando, Oakeshott, knowledge transmission, educator, organizer,
creator, adviser, motivator, commitment.

Human beings try to live a delighted life while they are alive, and therefore they
endeavor to create a promising life through studying, learning, and teaching. We study,
research, and improve our skills in a certain field but we also know that we need a
coach to give us primary education and skills during these efforts. Teacher, teaching –
these are the words we encounter when we start any field because we refer to the
teacher in the largest, most prestigious, most paid fields and several similar prestigious
professions. Have we ever wondered what is meant by these words? What is a teacher
or teaching? Paula Coelho says that “I will tell you it is not someone who teaches
something, but someone who inspires the students to give of her/his best in order to
discover what she/he already knows”. Some internet sources describe teaching as
follows: teaching is the process of attending to people’s needs, experiences and
feelings, and intervening so that they learn particular things, and go beyond the given.
Furthermore, at www.igi-global.com Engagement, Publishing, and The Scholarship of
Teaching and Learning, we can be sure that it has two foundations: Teaching.
There are two fundamentally different ways of understanding teaching. The first
sees teaching as an instructor-centered activity in which knowledge is transmitted from
someone who has acquired that knowledge to novice learners: teaching as knowledge
transmission The second sees teaching as a learner-centered activity in which the
instructor ensures that learning is made possible for novice learners and supports,
guides, and encourages them in their active and independent creation of new
knowledge: teaching as assisted knowledge creation. In addition, teaching is the

teaching profession, which helps an individual for his growth fully, in his body, mind,
spirit, intellectual emotion and with moral values and artistic sensitivity.
Teachers are often considered the backbone of school [[Ingersoll & Merill, 2014]
1.93] As mentioned above, we can conclude that teaching is one of the instruments of
education and sharing knowledge, skills, and experience.
The teaching process is the knowledge, experience, and skills that are
purposefully passed from one person to another, where the teacher is primarily the
giver. Nowadays, order to develop technology and the increase of information,
responsibilities, and actions of the teaching profession are becoming more difficult and
the demand for it is growing, which is why it is considered noblest. Respect the ideas
and attitudes of learners and students, create a good mood in the teaching process, have
a positive attitude, skillfully demand students who are striving for their goals, be alert
and attentive in everything, maintain their professional skills in any situation and
constant collaboration encourages the teacher to be unique.
Orlando pointed out nine characteristics of a great teacher, which are listed below:
1. A great teacher respects the ideas of students.
2. A great teacher creates a sense of community and belonging in the classroom.
3. A great teacher is warm, accessible, enthusiastic, and caring.
4. A great teacher sets high expectations for all students.
5. A great teacher has a love of learning.
6. A great teacher is a skilled leader.
7. A great teacher is flexible.
8. A great teacher collaborates with colleagues on an ongoing basis.
9. A great teacher maintains professionalism in all areas.
Based on these qualities, the teacher creates ethics that play an important role in
his professional life. It governs how ethics instruct and evaluates learners. The ethical
stance of a teacher will govern how he or she instructs and assesses students. Ethics
also will play a significant role in how a teacher interacts with students, colleagues,
administrators, and the community at large. Professional ethics are a crucial element
of this profession.
Professional ethics means “all issues involving ethics and values in the roles of
professions and the conduct of professions in the society” (Bayles, 1981). A code of
professional ethics is one of the most important resources available to teachers, guiding
their work and their interactive relations at the professional level. [1.95] If we discuss
the main role of the great teachers of the concept of justice in the teaching process, who
have a universal understanding of human life, first of all, the most common role is that
of the educator. That is, they teach based on their knowledge and experience, based on
a program and plan set by the state.

Second, the role of the teacher as an educator is not only in education, but also in
how we react to what is happening around us, our duties and responsibilities, and our
role as educators. Also, as an organizer of the teaching process, that is, as a creator of
the lessons learned, teachers play the role of a psychologist who provides scientific
guidance throughout the lesson and when learners need to make a decision. The process
of learning work will be successful if the students inside are highly motivated. The
teacher has a crucial role in growing motivation and motivation in students in learning.
Finding solutions of improving the quality of education requires everyone’s
responsibility. This raises questions about education or teaching, its purpose, and the
role of the teacher in the process. On the other hand, Oakeshott responded within the
framework of his views, trying to combine these inconveniences in terms of teaching
and learning. First, the purpose of learning is not merely as the acquisition of
knowledge, but also as the extension of the ability to learn, as the education and not
merely the furnishing of a mind, as an inheritance coming to be possessed in such
manner that it loses its second-hand or antique manner. That is, learning must be to be
a process that encourages not only the acquisition and extension of knowledge but also
some form of understanding of how to apply and further develop any knowledge.
Moreover, in light of Oakeshott’s prominent role as the teacher, there is, naturally, the
subsequent significance given to the teacher’s activities- namely, the process of
teaching. Teaching as a process, remember, was regarded by Oakeshott as attributable
only to a teacher and not too reliable sources, textbooks, activities, or human
experience. In this way, learning as a by-product of teaching was distinguished from
the learning that takes place through experience, and similarly, the learner was
distinguished from the pupil in that the pupil was seen to be the counterpart to the
teacher, whereas the learner had no such requirements or privileged position. Teaching,
therefore, is associated with this significant role of the teacher, “is the deliberate and
intentional initiation of a pupil into the world of human achievement or some part of
it”. Given, also, the fact that the teacher is the person responsible for the role of teaching
and all that it entails, the teacher is therefore seen to be the one conducting such an
intentional initiation.
The role of teacher and his or her pupils, as well as the processes of teaching and
learning, are thrown open to further discussion by Oakeshott in an effort to tie the
processes to the key players involved. As I have already outlined, the subset of pupils
seems to be contained within the set of learners, to the extent that every pupil is a
learner, but the pupil must demonstrate the added characteristic of being attached to a
teacher. Moreover, teaching as a process is possible only in the presence of a teacher;
no other resources suffice to deliver the process of teaching successfully, which is
considered to be the holy grail of learning. In this sense, Oakeshott ties the processes
and the players together, nothing that a pupil is a learner known to a teacher; and

teaching, properly speaking, is impossible in his absence. The teacher is therefore a
guide through the learning process, the person who ensures that the pupil under his or
her charge is directed to the concepts and notions of a so-called inheritance, which may
be of interest or use to that pupil. [2, 118-119]
To summarise, the great teaching profession, played an important role in the
teaching process because every simple or popular profession is achieved through a
teacher. As mentioned above, we discussed the unique and noblest profession of
teaching, which has its professional ethics, especially, its roles as educator, facilitator,
demonstrator, manager, advisor, motivator, and creator of educational conveniences,
as well as Oakeshott’s views and points on it. An inspiring and informed teacher is the
most important school-related factor influencing student achievement, so it is critical
to pay close attention to how we train and support both our new and experienced
educators. The best professional development is ongoing, experiential, collaborative,
and connected to and derived from working with students and understanding their
culture. In addition to those, a very important element of successful teaching is
commitment. Commitment teachers are concerned with the development of their
students. Commitment to ongoing professional learning is an integral part of effective
teaching. In short, for the teacher, every action and activity is a role in the teaching
process.
They may be an actor, a singer, a psychologist or a creator, and so on, but the most
important thing is to teach the learners useful and accurate information and knowledge.
If the teacher prepares a warm, happy environment, students or pupils are more likely
to be happy. An environment set by the teacher can be either positive or negative.
Students spend a great deal of time with their teachers. If students sense the teacher is
angry, students may react negatively to that and therefore learning can be impaired. In
case, they divert the environment, that is, increase their ownership in the processor in
the classroom to listen to the learners, this action will increase students’ confidence
and a sense of purpose.
