The statistics say that about 100 million people in the world are homeless now

The statistics say that about 100 million people in the world are homeless now.

What is meant by homelessness?

The people those who don't have a housing accommodation may have to take shelter in a public or private place. This state may not provide the facilities a normal home provides such as place for cooking, sleeping and performing other household works. Some people may keep on moving from place to place daily, as they get temporary place only as shelter.

Sometimes people having mental disorder may come out from the family unknowingly and remain as homeless. The people having addiction to bad habits like alcohol, drug and other things, may themselves leave the home or the family members may send them out. The domestic violence also makes many people as homeless. Sometimes, due to rain or some other natural calamity, the temporary housing structure made them may fall, making the persons living there homeless. In some families, when the spouse dies, the surviving person may be sent out, as the other family members could not look after that person or they may not like to take the burden.

Some people may get poor income or no income to maintain family and they may not be able to pay house rent. At that time, he and his family have to stay in some place. The declining wages have put many people in homeless condition. The job opportunities created may not give job to all categories of jobseekers. The economic growth benefits some categories of people only and the condition of many people remain unchanged, leaving them as homeless. The increase in house rent is another problem which makes many as homeless.

Some people may lose job suddenly and they may not be able to spend for house rent. Some others due to illness or accident, may have to spend a huge amount towards medical expenses. In such occasions, these people vacate the rented house and come to streets in search of free accommodation, which make them homeless. The common people may be frightened of homeless people, as they may not be aware of the background. They may not have belief or they may suspect them. So, they may not come forward to extend any help.

How to solve the problem of homelessness?

The Government and voluntary organizations should come forward to extend help to those who are homeless. By making arrangements for a job, the concerned person will come up from poverty and find a livelihood. He may improve his status and get ready to pay house rent and meet other household expenses. The common people may also take part in this movement. The house owners may let out the house for low rent to the homeless persons. The welfare measures taken should reach those who are in need. The housing assistance should be provided to the people who are branded as homeless in the form of housing loan to those who get standard income and have got capacity for repayment of loan. For others, the housing units may be built for low income people and they may be accommodated there for cheap rent. The quick housing arrangements should be made for those who wait for a long time as per the waiting lists.

When a person has got little income, first priority should be given for food for himself and other family members. Then only, he could think about other things. When the basic needs are fulfilled, he could think about moving to a rented house with family. The survey should be taken regarding homeless people and help them to get a home. For the persons who are alone and left homeless, accommodation in old age homes or orphanages should be arranged.

Many people bury themselves in their own problems and refuse to think about others. This attitude should change. We are in a society. We should take care of the people in our society. Whenever we get an opportunity to help others, we should do it. The media could help a lot by showing the methods by which the common people could take part in the movement of helping the homeless. The homeless people are really unfortunate. We should learn to react well to the situation and help them. Definitely, everybody can help to fight for driving out homelessness from the world.

Individuals who do not have a home or a place to go to sleep at night, and live in the streets, or live in transitional housing or shelters are referred to as homeless. Homelessness is a problem in our society
and it

has been for innumerable generations. The

word "homeless" has become a more politically correct name for the former vagrants, tramps, beggars, bag ladies/men/people, winos, bums, and wondering poor.

If you were to walk down an intercity street of any major city you will be confronted with homeless people either wandering around asking you for money to buy food, or you might see a few huddled in a corner of a building somewhere trying to keep warm. You might even see a few numbing the pain of their situation with a bottle of cheap wine.

Where do they sleep?

Countless individuals have nowhere to lay their heads at night. Some might live in a box on the street, or in a tent, and some might even be fortunate enough to live in a car or a motor home; at least they have a roof over their heads to protect them from the elements. However many of the homeless have no where to stay and resort to living in parks, train stations, airports, and abandoned buildings.

What about health care?

Many of the homeless go uncared for, because free care clinics are usually filled to capacity trying to keep up with the growing need. While there is a growing concern, there are a limited number of professionals available to provide indigent care. It could take up to 3 months to get into a free care clinic for dental or physical care. Individuals who are exposed to the harsh elements over an extended period of time with a history of poor nutrition and/or substance abuse are at risk for many communicable diseases. Tuberculosis is very prevalent in the wandering poor.

Are there jobs for the homeless?

There are some non-profit organizations that provide job-training skills, but these organizations may not always be geared for the homeless people. I talked with one individual who said it is hard to get training for a job because the organizations want them to have an address.
