Reflection on microteaching



This essay represents my reflected image on microteaching that I done at practice.
After completing my teaching, I reviewed the video recording of my lesson, gained written and spoken feedback from my peers and instructor, and took the opportunity to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the lesson.
Despite how nervous and stressed I was about my micro-teaching session, I feel that it really came together nicely and that I taught a successful lesson to my "students." Looking at my lesson, it can almost be divided up into three parts: the brief powerpoint lecture, the charades game, and the writing activity to tie it all together. This was one thing I think that worked well-a variety of activities kept my students engaged and disallowed anyone from "checking out" too soon or zoning out. I was given feedback that they liked my powerpoint because I tried to add in a little humor-not too much but just enough that would make you smile if you were following along correctly. I think adding personality into teaching like that is successful because it can be entertaining and keep the students on their toes.

I was a little worried about action verb charades, I will admit, but that went more smoothly than I had hoped too. I think it was a positive add-in to my lesson because it allowed students to get up out of their seats and move around a bit. Using a reward system here, like the candy, worked well too I think.It kept them engaged and added incentive for paying attention and guessing correctly, not just shouting out random words. After charades, I moved on to having students incorporate action verbs into their own writing by choosing a magazine picture from a pile that I had cut out and write a paragraph about what's going on in the picture. I think that this was also a really strong point of the lesson.



To sum up, I think my lesson went smoothly and I liked what I chose to incorporate, but there were a few things that did not go as well as I had planned. Mostly, after reviewing the video, I felt like I could have spoken more clearly and annunciated more-it almost seemed like I was mumbling when I spoke, but when I hear myself talk, I don't hear it like that at all. I know I have a tendency to talk fast too, so I need to try and work on that to be sure students understand me at all times.
