PRACTICAL EXERCISE 4

Topic : Selection of material from reference tables for professional activity
Equipment supply : projector
Purpose of work :
1. Consolidation of knowledge on conditional designation of grades of ordinary and alloyed steels according to GOST.
2. Consolidation of knowledge on identifying the main characteristics according to the marking and chemical composition.
Knowledge and to skills to be placed requirements :
Need to know: Choosing material for professional activities
Recommendations for performance of work and preparation of report
1. Draw 1 table on the report sheet.
2. Copy and write the option given by the teacher in column 1 of the table.
3. Decode the alphanumeric symbols of alloys given in the corresponding column of table 1.
4. Show the field of application of the alloy.
5. Answer the control questions in writing.
6. Summarize.
Brief theoretical information.
Deformable steels.
Alloys that do not undergo heat treatment include:
• aluminum manganese alloy of AMts brand;
• AMg; Aluminum-magnesium alloys of AMgZ, AMg5V, AMg5P, AMg6 brands
Tanks for gasoline, wires, rivet scales, welded tanks for gas and liquids, car parts are made from them.
The group of heat-treated deformable aluminum alloys includes: -
normal strength;
- high strength alloys;
-heat-resistant alloys;
Alloys for hammering and stamping.
Alloys of normal strength. Such alloys include alloys that belong to the Aluminum + Copper + Magnesium (duralumin) system and are designated by the letter D.
Duralumins (D1, D16, D18) are classified by their high strength, sufficient hardness and viscosity.
To strengthen the alloys, they are first boiled and then soaked in water. Duralumins are widely used in:
- Screw blades are made of D1 alloy ;
-D16 is used to make the retaining parts of the aircraft fuselage;
- D18 is the main material for making rivets.
High-strength aluminum alloys (V93, V95, V96)
Aluminum+ Zinc + Magnesium+M is included in the group.
Chromium and manganese are used as alloying elements, and the elements increase the corrosion resistance and wear efficiency of the bearing. The alloy is tempered with further aging to achieve the required strength properties. Details working under high load are produced from such alloys.
AK4-1, D20 heat-resistant aluminum alloys are alloyed with iron, nickel, copper and other elements and have a complex chemical composition. Parts made of heat-resistant alloys work at a temperature of 300 0 C after quenching and artificial aging .
AK2, AK4, AK6, AK8 alloys belong to the Aluminum+Copper+Magnesium system with silicon added, intended for details made by hammering and stamping.

After hardening and tempering of the alloys, medium-load parts (AK6) with complex shapes and high-load stamped pistons, screw blades, and pump vanes are produced.

Cast alloys. Aluminum alloys of the Al-Si, Al-Cu, Al-Mg system are used for the production of details by the casting method.
Cast alloys. Al-Si, Al-Cu, Al-Mg system alloys are used when making parts by welding. To improve mechanical properties, the alloy is alloyed with titanium, boron, vanadium. The main advantage of cast alloys is their fluidity, good mechanical properties.
