Copper and its alloys . Brass is an alloy of copper, the main alloying element of which is zinc. According to the amount of alloying elements, brasses are divided into the following types.
- simple brasses;
- multi-component (alloyed) brasses
Common brasses are marked with the letter "L" and numbers, the numbers indicating the average amount of copper in the alloy.
For example: alloy L90 - brass contains 90% copper, the rest consists of zinc. The letters and numbers on the brand of alloyed brass indicate the alloying elements in the alloy and their percentages. For example, the alloy LANKMts75-2-2.5-0.5-0.5 is aluminum-nickel-silicon-manganese brass, which contains 75% copper, 2% aluminum, 0.5% nickel, 0.5% silicon. .5% manganese and the rest zinc.
Depending on the alloying element, there are brasses with aluminum, silicon, manganese, nickel, tin, and lead.
Bronze is an alloy of copper with tin and other elements ( aluminum, silicon, manganese , lead beryllium). According to the amount of the main components, bronze is divided into the following types: tin - the main alloying component is tin; tin (special), does not contain tin.
Bronze is marked with the letters "Br" and the index and composition of the elements included in the composition. Then the numbers determine the average percentage of the elements in the composition (the number indicating the amount of copper in bronze is not put).
For example, an alloy labeled BrOTsS5-5-5 indicates that the composition consists of 5% tin-lead and zinc, and the remaining 85% copper.
Deformable tin bronzes contain up to 8% tin. These bronzes are used to make deformable parts such as springs and membranes.
Cast bronzes contain more than 6% tin and have high anti-friction properties and durability. These alloys are used to make details in friction pairs (sliding bearings).
Special bronzes include aluminum, nickel, silicon, iron, beryllium, chromium, lead and other elements. In most cases, the name of bronze is determined by the name of the main alloying element. The chemical elements used in alloying are defined as follows in the marking of copper alloys.
