Module: Listening Dialogue on the phone Toppoc: On the phone..... Title: Level of learners: A2 Type of the lesson: listening strategies Materials: handouts, listening paper, activity papers , listening strategies book, board, market... Time: 40 minutes Teacher: Abduqayumova Sevara Aim: development of English listening skill and strengthening of types Activity 1 a) you should tell common phrases which are often used talking on the phone one by one Objective: all the students to expand their vocabulary by sharing the phrases they know with each other Activity 1b) to practise talking about telephones and telephoning by making dialogue with together Objective:In groups PP take turns to ask and answer questions about telephones and telephoning. When they have finished, check the answers with the whole class by asking the questions one by one and letting several PP answer. Activity 2a Objective: to practise listening for the main idea PP copy the dialogue in their Ex.Bks. Play the CD. PP listen and answer the Questions. Key: 1 Steve 2 to say ‘Happy Birthday’ CD script Steve: (ring, ring) Hello. Basildon 567292. Jane: Hello. Could I speak to Sandra, please? Steve: Yes. Speaking. Jane: Hi, Steve. It’s Jane here. Steve: Oh, hi. How are you? Jane: Fine, thanks. I’m phoning to say ‘Happy Birthday!’ I wish You happiness, health, success and all the best in the world. Steve: Thanks. Jane: Have a wonderful day. See you soon. Bye. Steve: Bye. Activity 2b Objective: to practise identifying and writing telephone phrases Play the CD again. PP listen and fill in the missing bits of the conversation in Their Ex.Bks. Then you ask the questions and they should answer. Key: 1 Hello. Basildon 567292 2 Could I speak to ….please? 3 Yes. Speaking Language note: in Britain, when giving or asking for telephone numbers, we don’t say thousand, million, hundered, we say separately. So 421 67 59 is four two one six seven five nine. The “ 0” pronounced ‘oh’. 081 436 0872 is oh eight one, four three six, oh eight seven two . But when the same number occurs twice the word ‘double’ is used with the number. 1994422 is one double nine double four double two.
