ABSTRACT 
The article provides a review of the literature on the Valeriana 
medicinal. As a medicinal plant, Valeriana is one of the most common 
representatives of medicinal herbs and is widely used in official and 
traditional medicine. The actions and properties of valerian have been 
widely studied: antibacterial, anthelmintic, anti-stress, carminative, 
hypotensive, diuretic, detoxifying, choleretic, tonic, antiemetic, sedative, 
antispasmodic, tonic, soothing. It also has the following actions - it lowers

the excitability of the central nervous system, relaxes smooth muscles, 
dilates the coronary vessels, regulates cardiac activity, increases the 
secretion of the gastrointestinal tract, improves appetite, reduces the 
excitability of the central nervous system, enhances the secretion of the 
glandular apparatus of the gastrointestinal tract.
