Explain the role of teachers and learners in use of ALM
Audio Lingual Method uses repetition, replacement, and question answer to drill speaking skill especially student's vocabulary. The teacher is easier to control the student's behavior and student's vocabulary. After that, the teacher can know the memorization of the students' vocabulary. The teacher chooses an important situation to practice the structure. Also, the teacher show to students how words relate to meaning in the target language, and get individual students to talk. In the case of student's role, since the teacher is a model for them.
Take any two techniques of ALM and explain their application to the lesson
This teaching technique was initially called the Army Method, and was the first to be based on linguistic theory and behavioral psychology. The basic principles of the Audio-lingual Method can be listed as follows: 1) Language forms occur most naturally within a context. 2) The native language should be kept apart in order to prevent its interference on the target language.
Speak about the role of instructional materials
There is generally no basic text in a Total Physical Response course. Materials and realia play an increasing role, however, in later learning stages. For absolute beginners, lessons may not require the use of materials, since the teacher's voice, actions, and gestures may be a sufficient basis for classroom activities. Later the teacher may use common classroom objects, such as books, pens, cups, furniture. As the course develops, the teacher will need to make or collect supporting materials to support teaching points. These may include pictures, realia, slides, and word charts. Asher has developed TPR student kits that focus on specific situations, such as the home, the supermarket, the beach. Students may use the kits to construct scenes (e.g., "Put the stove in the kitchen").
