What is Semasiology?

Semasiology is simply the branch of linguistics that concerns studying the meanings of words as well as their meanings within a sentence . Thus ,it is the study of linguistic meaning , or more precisely , the study of relation between linguistic expressions and their meaning . Therefore, it considers the meaning of a sentence without paying attention to their context.

What is semasiology?

Semasiology has two main categories as lexical and phrasal semasiology . Accordingly , lexical semasiology concerns the meanings of words and the meanings of words and the meaning of relationships among words , while phrasal semasiology concerns the meaning of syntactic units, which are larger than words

For example, let’s say you have a dog and I have a dog our original image of what that might look like may be different but we can use language to help us come to a common understanding of what that dog is and it can help different people understand each other despite different experiences or points of view common meaning also helps humans and machines understand each other better it helps a computer accurately interpret what people mean because they share a specific definition finally common meaning enables different kinds of IT systems like datebases and applications to interface more effectively unproductively .
