ANNOTATION OF THE DISSERTATION
Actuality of the theme. This master’s dissertation is devoted to the problems of defining the specific features of phonostylistics, a new branch of linguistics. It is known that speech is the accual realization of the prossess of speech and phonostylistics is meant to study the linguistic and extralinguistic features of speech. This linguistic phenomenon may be found in differrent languages but it has its own typical features in each language. Though speech in English is investigated and described to some extent by linguistic scholars, this problem needs some more thorough research.
The aim of the reseach is to analyse the linguistic features of phonostylistics, to investigate the nature of phonetic styles and find out their typical features and classify them according to common properties. A close examination of the speech characteristics of one and the same person easily reveals that each native speaker uses several varieties of the language. Each of these varieties may differ in the usage of items of vocabulary and in grammatical structures, but by far the most striking distinctions are phonetical.
Phonostylistics studies the way phonetic means of the language function in various oral realizations of the language. As the object of research we have taken the speech units, expressed in the orthoepic and orthographic forms and the research is carried out with the help of different linguistic and statistic methods.
The scientific and practical importance of the research lies in the fact that its results may be used in defining the criteria for the classification of phonetic styles and in studying of this linguistic phenomenon. Concerning the practical value of the research we may state that learners should take into consideration characteristic features of speech – literary and colloquial types.
The structure of the dissertation – the research work consists of the required structure – and introduction, 3 chapters, conclusions and the list of used literature.
