Answers

1 . A talent show is an event in which participants perform the arts of singing, dancing, lip-syncing, acting, martial arts, playing an instrument, poetry, comedy or other activities to showcase skills. Many talent shows are performances rather than contests, but some are actual contests. In the instance of a contest, participants may be motivated to perform for a reward, trophy, or prize of some kind. For example, a high school might not have many students with any interest in performing in front of the student body for the sole purpose of performing alone and may offer different prizes as an incentive for these students to participate in the contest

2.Have you ever wonder when you have learnt about something, but you just cannot remember it anymore after few days, weeks, months or during examination? You might remember the big Subtopics, but the details are blurry. No need to panic as it happens to almost everybody. This is what we called as Systematic Forgetting. How can forgetting be so systematic?

Learning is like pruning a tree. When a tree has grown with so many leaves, flowers, it has to be pruned. Pruning is a process to remove unnecessary cluttering to make ways for the tree to grown healthily. It is the same as learning, when you have learning so much, so many information in your head, this process will occur to make ways for new information to get in. Does this means you will forget EVERYTHING you have learnt? Not necessarily, systematic forgetting just rearranging the information in your head to be more systematic. Information that you rarely use will be sent way back and the ones that you always use, will be more reachable for you.Furthermore, Systematic Forgetting is rearranging your information from specific to general. This is the reason that most of the time, you will remember a topic or subtopic but the details are blurry.

Understanding VARK

One of the most accepted understandings of learning styles is that student learning styles fall into three categories: Visual Learners, Auditory Learners and Kinesthetic Learners. These learning styles are found within educational theorist Neil Fleming’s VARK model of Student Learning. VARK is an acronym that refers to the four types of learning styles: Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing Preference, and Kinesthetic. (The VARK model is also referred to as the VAK model, eliminating Reading/Writing as a category of preferential learning.) The VARK model acknowledges that students have different approaches to how they process information, referred to as “preferred learning modes.” The main ideas of VARK are outlined in Learning Styles Again: VARKing up the right tree! (Fleming & Baume, 2006)

Students’ preferred learning modes have significant influence on their behavior and learning.

Students’ preferred learning modes should be matched with appropriate learning strategies.

Information that is accessed through students’ use of their modality preferences shows an increase in their levels of comprehension, motivation, and metacognition.

Identifying your students as visual, auditory, reading/writing, kinesthetic, learners, and aligning your overall curriculum with these learning styles, will prove to be beneficial for your entire classroom.Keep in mind, sometimes you may find that it’s a combination of all three sensory modalities that may be the best option. Allowing students to access information in terms they are comfortable with will increase their academic confidence.
