The information included in this chapter is based on the data selected from the technical 
information included in the manufacturers literature and research papers. The main goal of 
this chapter is to provide information on:
• Physical and chemical characteristics of fillers
• Morphology of filler particles
• Sources of fillers
• Manufacturers
• Important commercial grades
• Major applications
• Relevant studies
Data for each filler are presented in the form of a standard table which contains, for a 
particular filler, only sections for which information was available. The physical charac-
teristics of fillers and other data on typical parameters are taken from the manufacturers 
literature and open literature to show the range of properties rather than values for a partic-
ular grade. The information on the characteristics of every filler is extensive and comes 
from over 250 manufacturers. Large quantity of information gathered is presented as 
established property range in a tabular form. 
The text which follows the table for a particular group of fillers discusses manufac-
turing methods, morphology, explains and amplifies the tabular data, and shows the results 
of the most important studies done on particular filler.
