Cocconato d’Asti: historical hints Cocconato d’Asti: aperçu historique Cocconato d’Asti: cenni storici Le origini risalenti all’epoca romana sono testimoniate dall’esistenza del villaggio di Marcellina, che sorgeva alle porte dell’attuale paese. All’epoca delle invasioni barbariche gli abitanti abbandorano la valle per rifugiarsi sulla collina, dove successivamente sorsero le fortificazioni dei conti Radicati, intorno al X secolo. La famiglia dominò il territorio fino al XVII secolo, quando si sottomise ai Savoia. Nei secoli successivi Cocconato conobbe una notevole rinascita economica grazie alle attività agricole, artigianali e commerciali. Les origines qui remontent à l’époque romaine, prouvent leur existence dans le village de Marcellina, qui se trouvait aux portes du village actuel. A l’époque des invasions barbares, les habitants abandonnèrent la vallée pour se réfugier sur la colline, où par la suite se dressèrent les fortifications des comtes Radicati, vers le X e siècle. La famille domina le territoire jusqu’au XVII e siècle, quand elle se soumit à la maison de Savoie. Durant les siècles suivants, Cocconato connut une remarquable renaissance économique grâce aux activités agricoles, artisanales et commerciales. The origins going back to Roman times are testified by the existence of the village of Marcellina, which rised near the gates of the current town. During the period of the barbaric invasions, the inhabitants abandoned the valley to find a shelter on the hill, where soon after the fortifications of the Radicati earls were built, around X century. This family dominated the territory until XVII century, when it bowed to the Savoy family. In the following centuries, Cocconato knew an economical revival, thanks to the agricultural, artisan and trade activities. The town hall La Mairie Il Palazzo Comunale Il palazzo quattrocentesco rappresenta uno dei rari esempi in Piemonte di edifici in stile gotico, con eleganti finestre contornate da formelle in cotto. Il porticato sottostante presenta arcate a sesto acuto sostenute da pilastri L’intervento di ammodernamento Ottocententesco ne ha modificato parzialmente le caratteristiche medievali. In fondo al cortile interno del municipio si eleva l’edificio un tempo sede delle carceri. Le palais du XV e siècle représente un des rares exemples dans le Piémont de bâtiments en style gothique, avec d’élégantes fenêtres entourées de panneaux en terre cuite. Le portique situé au-dessous présente des arcades en ogive soutenues par des piliers. L’intervention de modernisation du XIX e siècle en a modifié partiellement les caractéristiques médiévales. Au fond de la cour intérieure de la mairie, s’élève le bâtiment où autrefois siégeaient des prisons. The fifteenth century structure represents one of the rare examples of gothic style buildings in Piedmont, with elegant windows bordered by terracotta tiles. The portico situated below presents pointed arches held up by pillars. The modernization intervention occurred in XIX century has partly modified the medieval features. At the bottom of the inner courtyard of the city hall a building stands, which used to house the prison. The Tower La Tour La Torre È uno degli elementi caratterizzanti il paesaggio del comune. La Torre originaria faceva parte dell’antico castello dei Radicati, distrutto a metà Cinquecento. Venne utilizzata nell’Ottoccento utilizzata come stazione del telegrafo voluto da Napoleone per collegare Parigi con Milano e Venezia. Nel 1836 venne riedificata simile all’originale a poca distanza e adibita per un breve periodo a mulino a vento. Oggi la Torre è una residenza privata. C’est un des éléments caractérisant le paysage de la mairie. La Tour originaire faisait partie de l'ancien château des Radicati, détruit au milieu du XVI e siècle. Elle fut utilisée au XIX e siècle comme station du télégraphe voulu par Napoléon pour relier Paris à Milan et Venise. En 1836, elle fut reconstruite tout près semblable à l’originale et utilisée pendant une brève période comme moulin à vent. Aujourd’hui, la Tour est une résidence privée. This is one of the elements which characterizes the town landscape. The original tower was part of the ancient Radicati’s castle, destroyed in the middle 1500. It was used in XIX century as a telegraph station, wanted by Napoleon to connect Paris to Milan and Venice. In 1836 it was rebuilt, similar to the original one, not far from it, and used for a short period as a wind-mill. Nowadays the tower is a private house. Church of Saint Mary of the Solace Paroisse de Sainte Marie de la Consolation Parrocchiale di Santa Maria della Consolazione La chiesa venne edificata nel 1669 sui resti di una precedente con materiali provenienti da altri antichi edifici. Nel 1770 fu innalzato il campanile e a metà Ottocento la chiesa venne ampliata di due arcate. L’interno presenta un’unica navata e tre altari per lato. Si possono ammirare otto cappelle laterali, una di proprietà della comunità e le restanti appartenenti a famiglie nobili. Degni di rilevanza sono la maestosa pala absidale del 1731, opera del pittore Vitaliano Grassi e alcuni paliotti in scagliola. L’église fut construite en 1669 sur les ruines d’une précédente église avec des matériaux provenant d’autres vieux bâtiments. En 1770, le clocher fut dressé et au milieu du XIX e siècle, l’église fut élargie de deux arcades. L’intérieur présente une seule nef et trois autels de chaque côté. On peut admirer huit chapelles latérales, une de propriété de la communauté et les sept autres appartenant à des familles nobles. Dignes d’importance, le majestueux retable absidal de 1731, oeuvre du peintre Vitaliano Grassi, et quelques devants d’autel en stuc. The church was built in 1669 on the ruins of a former one, using materials coming from other ancient buildings. In 1770 the bell tower was raised and in the middle 1800 the church was enlarged with two arcades. The interior presents a single nave and three altars per side. Eight side chapels can be admired, one belonging to the community and the other ones to noble families. The imposing apsidal painting created by the painter Vitaliano Grassi in 1731 is noteworthy, such as some altar-frontals. Events Manifestations Manifestazioni Fiera di San Marco Si svolge il 25 aprile di ogni anno e presenta una vasta esposizione di vari settori merceologici: dai prodotti tipici all’abbigliamento, dai fiori all’oggettistica. Ricche le iniziative collegate alla fiera: musica, mostre, itinerari d’arte e attrattive adatte a ogni età.
La rassegna vinicola propone la degustazione dei vini classici del territorio come la Barbera, il Grignolino, il Freisa e la Malvasia, abbinati ai prodotti tipici locali. Una manifestazione che si collega a un turismo enogastronomico sempre più apprezzato.
Historical reenactment Commemorations historiques Rievocazioni storiche Il Palio degli asini Si svolge tutti gli anni la quarta domenica di settembre, ed è un evento legato alla storia medievale del paese. La giornata inizia con la benedizione dei Gonfaloni, prosegue con il corteo storico in costume e, infine, con la corsa degli animali attraverso il centro storico.
Il terzo sabato di settembre, lungo la via Roma, ogni borgo allestisce bancarelle e scene di vita del tempo dove si possono degustare piatti tipici della cucina medievale. Il tutto è arricchito da spettacoli, giocolieri, cartomanti e maghi. The palio donkeys race It takes place every year in the fourth Sunday of September and it is an event linked to the medieval town history. The day starts with the Gonfalon blessing, then it continues with the historical procession in ancient costumes and it ends with the donkeys race through the historical town center. The medieval fair On the third Saturday of September, along Roma Street, each borough prepares stalls and medieval life-scenes where tourists can taste typical dishes of medieval cooking. All this is enriched by shows, jugglers, fortune- tellers and wizards. Le Palio des ânes Il a lieu chaque année le quatrième dimanche de septembre, et ‘est un événement lié à l’histoire médiévale du pays. La journée commence par la bénédiction des Gonfalons, elle se poursuit avec le défilé historique en costume et, enfin, avec la course des animaux dans le centre historique. La foire médiévale Le troisième samedi de septembre, le long de la rue Roma, chaque bourg prépare des étalages et des scènes de la vie d’autrefois et l’on peut déguster des plats typiques de la cuisine médiévale.
