History

  • The territory of the boulevard and the boulevard itself were laid at the end of the 19th century. Turkestan Governor-General Konstantin Petrovich Kaufman in 1870 approved a plan for a new one - Russian Samarkand. In 1871, under the governor of Samarkand, Alexander Konstantinovich Abramovez, the Abramovsky Boulevard was laid, lined with numerous trees, dividing the old and new cities. The main central boulevard had a width of 60 fathoms (128 meters), a length of 490 fathoms (1044 m), had 3 avenues planted with maples, poplars, elm, acacia and aylanthus, and intersected with two passages. The boulevard was conceived as a central resting place for citizens. The landscaping of Abramovsky Boulevard was carried out by a military engineer, topographer and irrigator Alexander Nikolaevich Chernevsky, seedlings of trees and shrubs were grown in the house of a biologist, official for special assignments under the military governor Mikhail Ivanovich Nevesky, located at the end of the western part of the boulevard. After laying the boulevard, the first European-style buildings appeared in Samarkand. After laying the boulevard, the city began to grow and the historical new Samarkand appeared on the western side of the boulevard. Thanks to these historic buildings of the European and Gothic style, the boulevard has become one of the most beautiful in the city. The street is rich in historical events of the times of the Russian Empire and Soviet times. Before Uzbekistan gained independence, the boulevard was called Abramovskaya.
