Abstract :
The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of homework in the teaching and learning English . The study involved the use of questionnaires, interviews, and quantitative methods to analyze the volume of homework assigned by foreign language educators. The study focused particularly on whether homework requirements differed based on the instructional schedule used.
The findings of the study showed that language instructors across levels held a strong belief in the importance of homework in language education. Homework in introductory classes mainly comprised repetitive exercises, whereas tasks in advanced classes permitted students to utilize and employ the language skills they were acquiring. However, only a few teachers went beyond simply confirming homework completion, with minimal focus on its accuracy. There was limited proof that homework either aided or hindered the language-learning process.

Introduction
When asked about the importance of homework for student success in their class, most foreign language teachers emphasize the essential role of daily language practice through homework. However, research suggests that the effectiveness of homework in any subject is uncertain due to various influencing factors. In a study on the impact of block scheduling on foreign language instruction, concerns were raised by teachers about the reduced time available for homework on certain schedules. With classes meeting for fewer days on a block schedule, teachers had fewer opportunities to assign homework and were hesitant to require longer assignments to compensate for the lost time. Moreover, according to the Wisconsin report, teachers expressed concerns about the impact of block scheduling on instructional time in the classroom. They found that longer class periods made it challenging to sustain momentum for 90 to 100 minutes, which resulted in potential difficulties for both teachers and students. Consequently, a common solution to manage the extended class periods was to allocate time for students to complete homework, thereby reducing opportunities for new material introduction. This article presents the findings of the study and related research regarding the significance of homework in foreign language education. The study revealed that foreign language educators believe homework is crucial for language learning, but the amount of homework assigned in French I classes did not significantly differ based on the instructional schedule.
