The teaching and learning of writing
The skills-oriented teachers teach writing in fragmented pieces with the assumption that students cannot compose until they master the subskills that stem from writing.
We can allocate various types of activities, game roles, tests or texts for students in order to promote their writing skills throughout. These kind of ways are beneficial not only for students but also for teachers as well. Namely, in usual cases teachers write distinct types of writing skills, when they are conducting the lessons as well. They always need enhanced writing for their students and their lessons. The most indispensable and noticable way for the teaching of writing is utilizing multifarious types of essay, texts letters or variety kind of topics for writing.
The whole language teachers teach writing by immersing students in the process of writing. In whole language classrooms, students write whole compositions and share them with the teacher or other people from the start.
According to the writer Krashen,"This study investigated how incorporating reading activities in writing classes can help secondary school students develop their writing skills. The study was conducted using samples selected conveniently which involved 30 Form Four and Five students from one of the local secondary schools in Kapit, Sarawak. This study examined specifically on the effects of engaging reading activities in writing classes on their writing performance. This qualitative study examined how incorporating reading activities into writing classes can influence students’ writing results."The following techniques are consistent with the whole-language perspective:
Dialogue journal writing traditional
Dialogue journal is a long-term written conversation between a students and teachers,we know that, dialogue is truly needful for the students and teachers. For this condition, teachers always attempt to teach students and keep in touch with them or their parents, this method is verily indispensable and palatable for them . Namely, After each lessons, always teachers should take students ideas about the lessons which they learned. For this position, students should give their private ideas .Via this kind of way , teachers give feedbacks for themselves and they can enhance their skills for conducting lessons.Besides that, students writing skills will be also promoted respectively.Their notions will be visible via it, after they write in each lessons,it is also related to organize a dialogue journal with students in order to enhance their writing skills and to know their thoughts about themselves how to organize applicable lesson and how to allocate it for their students.
In classes with word processors that are easily accessible to all students, the journal may be on a disk passed back and forth and if schools have access to electronic mail, message can be sent without the exchange of disks. With access to computer networks, students can keep dialogue journals with other students in different parts of the world.
The benefits of dialogue journal writing in general include individualizing the teaching of writing, using writing and reading for real communication, making students more process-oriented, bridging the gap between speaking and writing, developing students' awareness of the real purposes of reading and writing, helping students become more relaxed as writers, promoting autonomous learning, improving vocabulary and punctuation skills, raising self-confidence, helping students become more fluent writers, and increasing opportunities for interaction between students and teachers and among students themselves. In addition to the above benefits, electronic dialogue journals enable students to send in their journals at any time of day or night and the respondent to answer at his/her convenience. Moreover, in a study on the difference between the discourse in dialogue journals written on paper and those sent via e-mail, Wang (1993) found that ESL students who used e-mail wrote more text, asked more questions, and used more language functions than students who wrote on paper.
According to the author's point of view, the use of dialogue journals with EFL students should move from correspondence between students and teacher to correspondence among students themselves, and from controlled to openended topics.
