Step 1

This video is about just 10 minutes of focused attention. Mindfulness expert Andy Puddicombe described the transformative power of doing just that: Refreshing your mind for 10 minutes a day, simply by being mindful and experiencing the present moment. First, speaker asked about when did we last take any time to do nothing? He meant no emailing, texting, no Internet, no TV, no chatting, no eating, no reading. Not even sitting there reminiscing about the past or planning for the future. Simply doing nothing. And he commented that it is an atypical thing. He said that our mind is the foremost profitable and valuable asset and in reality we don’t take any time to see after it. And he explained that the result because of these actions is that we get stressed. Then he added that the mind experiences a lot of challenging and confusing emotions which we don’t know how to deal with. He claimed about the sad effect of our being so distracted and it is that we are no longer present in the world in which we live. When he turned 20 years old, he met several troubles in his life and those were trigger for him to quit his degree and headed off to the Himalayas. He became a monk and studied meditation. He clarified that it instructed him and gave him a more prominent appreciation an understanding for the present time. And he told that he thinks that the present moment is so underrated and it sounds so ordinary, even yet we spend so little time in the present moment that it's anything but ordinary. He reported the research paper that came out of Harvard, that said on average, our minds are lost in thought almost 47 percent of the time. After that he expressed that we came into the world to spend nearly half of our life misplaced in thought and possibly quite unhappy. He wondered that it fair kind of appears awful, particularly when there's something we will do almost it, when there's a positive, practical, achievable, experimentally demonstrated method which permits our mind to be more solid, more careful and less occupied. He summed up that the beauty of it is that even though it need only take about 10 minutes a day, and it impacts our entire life. He informed that meditation is familiarizing ourselves with the present moment. He suggested that we're searching for a balance, a centered relaxation where able to permit thoughts to come and go without all the normal inclusion. Then he mentioned what usually happens when we're learning to be mindful and it is that we get distracted by a thought. But he argued that when we sit down and watch the mind in another way and we might see many different patterns. We might find a mind that's really restless and - the whole time. He concluded that meditation offers the opportunity, the potential to step back and to get a different perspective, to see that things aren't always as they appear and that we can't change every little thing that happens to us in life, but we can change the way that we experience it.
