Critical review of the article “The Importance of Listening Comprehension in Language Learning” by Seyedeh Masoumeh Ahmadi
Listening is one of basic skill in English. Many of students feel difficult to learn listening especially in English. Using a multimedia as a teaching media is important in this process. It can catch students attention of the lesson. The article, “The Importance of Listening Comprehension in Language Learning” by Seyedeh Masoumeh Ahmadi, seeks to address how listening skills of the language learners can be improved effectively. In this article, there are given many useful techniques and suggestions for the teachers which help them to improve listening skills of their students, pupils. One of them is about how to motivate the students, it is apparent that motivation is a key which leads to the success in learning. Obstacles which we come across during the learning process can be tackled down by it. That’s why it is important to make every learner motivated. Besides this, author provides information about components of listening comprehension, to prepare reliable and effective exercises, the role of listening in developing speaking skills and to improve the memory as well. In my opinion, this article is useful source for language educators.
Overall, this article is not very straightforward in the beginning and it’s not until the second page that you realize where the article is headed. In order to have more people be engaged and read the whole article it needs a new, more concise introduction. Once the reader gets to the really good examples that are relevant to the everyday life of a public administrator, a good portion of the article has already past. Overall, it is a good, well-written article with an important message for public administrators and organizations. The piece, when taken as a whole, is relevant and very convincing in theory but starts slow and never lays out a concrete way of approaching this complex problem.
