Theoritical background
Based on all of the above, we can say that the professional image reflects the image of a
specialist. However, to what extent and how a potential client perceives it, and what
determinants are present in this perception, there is no unambiguous answer in modern
imagology. That is why it was relevant for us to see if there are any correlations between the
perception of the professional image of a psychologist-consultant and the personality of his
potential client. In this article, we present a block of research that reflects the peculiarities of the
perception of the professional image of a psychologist in people with a predominance of
different values [3,20].
The purpose of the study: theoretical substantiation and experimental study of the problem
of the role of the personal component of an individual in the perception of the professional image
of a psychologist.
Object of research: professional image of a psychologist.
Subject of research: the role of the personal component of an individual in the perception
of the professional image of a psychologist.
Hypothesis: people with a predominance of different values set different priorities in the
perception of the professional image of a psychologist-consultant.
Methods: L.B. Filonov's modified technique "Five qualities" (author's version);
morphological test of life values (authors V.F.Sopov and L.V. Karpushina).
Sample: 100 respondents were selected as subjects, including 62 girls and 38 boys aged 18
to 28 years.
We divided the entire sample into subgroups depending on the degree of expression of life
values. We got 2 subgroups:
A group with egoistic and prestigious values – 48 respondents;
The group with spiritual and moral values – 52 respondents.
We conducted a qualitative analysis (by average scores) of the features of the perception of
the psychologist's image. In the description of this analysis, we have identified only positive and
rejected qualities in the professional image of a psychologist.
As a result, we made the following conclusions:
In a group with a predominance of egoistic-prestigious values, the following is observed: in
the category of "appearance": to reject qualities are such as: bright with strong feminine
qualities (1,96), to the positive qualities in this category such as: polite (4,50) with a pleasant
voice (4).
In the category "social design of personality" to the positive qualities in this category such
as: well-dressed (4,08), neat (4,33), dressed in business style (3,88).

In the category "individual psychological personality traits", positive qualities in this
category include such as: resourceful (4), sincere (4.29), honest (4.46), fair (4.33), reliable
(4.41), responsible (4.54), open (4.04)), optimist (3.88), rational (3.83), restrained (3.96).
In the category "features of professional communication", positive qualities include such as:
non-aggressive (4.29), polite (4.46), proficient in professional terminology (4.13), always
friendly with everyone (4.38), disposed to communicate (3.95), able to keep the topic of
conversation in line with the consultation (3.83), conflict-free in communication (4).
In the category "features of the professional activity of a psychologist", positive qualities in
this category include such as: capable of cooperation, mutual assistance (4.29), generous and
tolerant of shortcomings (4.08), intelligent (4.50), educated (4.33), organized (4.21), helping me
(4.38), patient with people's shortcomings (3.92), tolerant of people (4.08), independent of others
(4.13), independent of me (3.96), not in conflict with others (4,17), useful to me (4,25), not
competing with me (3,92), tries to comfort everyone (4,13).
Thus, for a group of respondents with a predominance of egoistic and prestigious values,
when assessing the ideal image of a psychologist-consultant, his professional qualities
education, organization, how much he can help, how smart he is are more important. It is also
important that he be honest, fair, responsible, sincere with them.
In professional communication, it is important for a potential client to be polite and, despite
his mood and circumstances, always friendly with everyone.
At the same time, we found that the qualities reflecting the appearance and social status of a
psychologist are least important for respondents. But for them, a psychologist with a pleasant
voice and a neat one would also be preferable. We also determined that when choosing a
psychologist for potential clients in this group, it is very important that the specialist does not
have pronounced feminine qualities, because people will not be comfortable communicating
with such a person and this will interfere with the course of classes. In the group with the
predominance of spiritual and moral values, the following is observed: in the category
"appearance", the rejected qualities include such as: asthenic (thin) physique (1.81), positive
qualities in this category include such as: polite (4.46), having a pleasant voice (4.04). In the
category of "social identity design": rejected qualities include such as: rich (1.69), cheaply
dressed (1.88), positive qualities in this category include such as: well-dressed (3.92), neat
(4.23). In the category of "individual psychological personality traits", rejected qualities include
such as: timid (1.96), positive qualities in this category include such as: resourceful (4.19),
sincere (4.46), honest (4.35), fair (4.42), reliable (4.54), responsible (4.42), open (4.27),
optimistic (4). In the category "features of professional communication", positive qualities in this
category include such as: not aggressive (4.15), polite (4.31), proficient in professional
terminology (4.27), always friendly with everyone (3.88), disposed to communicate (4.08), able
to keep the topic of conversation in line with the consultation (3.88), conflict-free in
communication (3.81). In the category "features of the professional activity of a psychologist",
positive qualities in this category include such as: capable of cooperation, mutual assistance
(3.88), generous and tolerant of shortcomings (3.88), intelligent (4.38), educated (4.69),
organized (4.54), helping me (4.31), patient with people's shortcomings (4.15), tolerant of people
(4.35), independent of others (4.19), independent of me (4.15), not in conflict with others (3.96),
useful to me (4.08). Thus, for a group of respondents with spiritual and moral values, when
