Speaking Part 1

Speaking Part 1
Every individual has a multitude of memories of their hometowns, be they unforgettable or flawed. So, here is how you can utilize this opportunity to share your cherishing memories about your special place.
Check out the sample for “Describe your Hometown” topic.
1 What’s (the name of) your hometown and where is it?
Victoria is my hometown. It is a province located in the west of my country.
2 Is that a big city or a small place?
It is a small province with slightly more than 1 million people.
3 Please describe your hometown a little? (or) What’s your hometown like? (or) Tell me about your hometown.
It has a breathtaking view of picturesque landscapes with rolling mountains and greenish lakes. However, due to the increasing economy, a number of businesses, especially in sugarcane, are invested in my hometown making it very promising.

4 How long have you been living there?
I had lived there for around 15 years before my family left for Santa City. It’s been more than ten years since I left my hometown.
5 Do you like your hometown? If yes, what do you like (most) about your hometown?
Yes, I do like my hometown! I like the hospitality of people in my hometown. Also, everyone was willing to give others a hand when they needed help.
6 Is there anything you dislike about it?
Personally, it’s a bit boring for me because as a small town, there isn’t a shopping mall or any other means of entertainment. The streets don’t get very crowded as well. However, I believe that it is improving day by day and turning into a potential hotspot due to the increasing number of annual visitors.
7 Do you often visit your hometown?
I do visit occasionally when there are some celebrations. I also go on a long drive after some hectic weekends.
8 Do you think you will continue living there for a long time?
To be honest, I hope I could go there to visit my relatives and friends, but settling down is not part of my plan. I am now getting familiar with city life as there are more job opportunities here.
9 Has your hometown changed much since you were a child?
Actually yes. It has changed enormously. Around 20 years ago you would barely find tall buildings in my area, but now you’d easily be able to catch sight of skyscrapers and tower blocks there.
10 Are there any changes you would like to make in your hometown?
I would like to ameliorate the infrastructure so that I can avoid being stuck in a traffic jam during peak hours.

What kind of place is it?

My hometown is a large town with a very large number of people living there. It has two main parts: old town and modern town. The old town reflects the traditional building, old ways of businesses and life and that will give you an impression of the history of this town. On the other hand, the new part, which is in the northern part of the town, has gone through numerous developments in the last few years and it is usually a busy part. People are amiable, educated and they live in peace and harmony, which is the most attractive part of our town, in my opinion. The city has a small area which is occupied by tea gardens and has a small river and many fountains. This is the most beautiful part of our town. Overall, my town is beautiful and it is a good place to live in.
What’s the most interesting part of your town/village?
I think the people are the most interesting part of a village or town. Citizens of an area determine how the area would look like, how the roads and gardens would look like and many more aspects apart from the natural beauties of an area. My town is no exception and I find the people in my town are most intriguing. If I consider anything apart from people as interesting that would be the traditional buildings and way of life which are still available in the old part of my town.
How has it changed over the past few years?
Well, if I recall the way I had seen my hometown a few years earlier, it had less population, fewer buildings, and a traditional way of life. But in the last few years, this town went through numerous developments. The frequent parks and open spaces have been replaced by the modern buildings and commercial establishments, more industries have been established and people seems like have a busy lifestyle these days. The professions of people have transformed to mostly industrial jobs while many of our ancestors were farmers. The roads have become wider and yet congested. The southern part of the town still has the old traditional lifestyle and buildings, but the other parts of the town are quite different than it was 10 years earlier.
Would you say it’s a good place to live? Why?
Yes, definitely. My hometown offers all the modern facilities, better job opportunities and then nice environment and communication systems someone can expect from a town. Apart from that, the people are nice and friendly. We have got some nice educational institutes, hospitals, community centres, better security and open spaces that make this town a better place to live in.
