I have got a new job! It’s in a supermarket and I work there every Saturday. I start at 8 am and the shop opens at 9 am. I fill the shelves with food products and tidy the shopping baskets by the entrance. I clean the floors and work at the checkout. My manager is very nice. She tells me what to do and never shouts. The other workers are really friendly, too. We take three breaks a day and finish at 4 am. It’s hard work because the shop gets very busy, but I really enjoy it.
Task 3. Answer the following questions.
1.What are differences between motivation and inspiration? The difference between motivation and inspiration can be clearly understood by referring to the following points:
1.Motivation refers to a process of stimulating someone to act in a definite way to achieve a goal. Inspiration is defined as an act of influencing people mentally and emotionally to do something creative. 2.Motivation is something that impels or persuades you to take an action, whereas inspiration is what pulls you towards something. 3.There is a sense of resistance and competitiveness in motivation while inspiration has a sense of excitement and effortlessness. 4.Motivation is short lived, i.e. suppose you attend a seminar of a great personality, after which you feel excited to do something, but after a specific period of a couple of weeks or days then the urge will start declining. On the other hand, inspiration is enduring in nature, that resides in us and makes us committed until we attain the goal. 5.Motivation comes from an external source which can be your reward, recognition, appreciation, etc. Although the source of inspiration is internal, a deep desire which emerges inside us. 6.Motivation is a deliberate or planned instinct to take a step. Conversely, in the case of inspiration, that impulse is spontaneous.
2. How useful are they in different activities of a human-being? The main advantages of motivation in human activity are as follows:
1. Need satisfaction. Motivation satisfies the needs of individuals as well groups. Every individual or group of individuals joins an organisation to fulfill certain personal needs. The motivation function of the manager serves to help such fulfillment.
2. Job satisfaction. Motivation also promotes job satisfaction. When an employee’s needs are satisfied, he is on the whole happy. His job satisfaction is of more direct concern. It is the key to other important consequences.
3. Productivity. An individual’s contribution to output is the resultant of two variables-his capacity for work and his willingness to work.
4. Learning. Motivation helps the learning process. Without motivation learning does not take place. There must be motivation or drive before there can be learning. Motivation stimulates interest and the attitude of willing to learn.
3. Why are motivation and inspiration often called as “pushers of development”? High-quality motivation allows us to thrive, while its deficit causes us to flounder. Societal benefits of increased motivation are visible in greater student engagement, better job satisfaction in employees, flourishing relationships, and institutions. Inspirational leadership focuses on each individual employee, while also placing great emphasis on the company's mission and values. Inspiring managers communicate and live the company values in each interaction with an employee. They emphasize how the team's work is making a positive impact in the world. Inspiring leaders clearly communicate expectations and pay attention to the needs of their employees. They get to know their team members on a more personal level so that their words and actions carry greater weight for those they lead. A focus on inspirational leadership helps change an employee's internal mindset. Motivation starts to come from within as they understand how their contribution makes a difference.
