WhatdoHumanitiesstudy? Humanities are academic disciplines that study aspects of human society and culture. In the Renaissance, the term contrasted with divinity and referred to what is now called classics, the main area of secular study in universities at the time. Today, the humanities are more frequently contrasted with natural, and sometimes social sciences, as well as professional training.[1] The humanities use methods that are primarily critical, or speculative, and have a significant historical element[2]—as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural sciences,[2] yet, unlike the sciences, it has no central discipline.[3] The humanities include the study of ancient and modern languages, literature, philosophy, history, archaeology, anthropology, human geography, law, politics, religion,[4] and art. Scholars in the humanities are "humanity scholars" or humanists.[5] The term "humanist" also describes the philosophical position of humanism, which some "antihumanist" scholars in the humanities reject. The Renaissance scholars and artists were also called humanists. Some secondary schools offer humanities classes usually consisting of literature, global studies and art. Human disciplines like history, folkloristics, and cultural anthropology study subject matters that the manipulative experimental method does not apply to—and instead mainly use the comparative method[6] and comparative research. What subfield do Humanities include? The humanities include ancient and modern languages, literature, history, philosophy, religion, and visual and performing arts such as music and theatre. The humanities that are also regarded as social sciences include technology, history, anthropology, area studies, communication studies, cultural studies, law and linguistics. Scholars working in the humanities are sometimes described as "humanists". What do Social Studies refer to? It is important for both parents and their children to ask what do students learn in social studies class? Many students may take their school curriculum for granted, but if they understood the basis and objectives for the subject matters that they take up in class, they might be able to better appreciate the facts and information, and study harder. They would be able to understand why they are studying such information, and therefore appreciate them better in the right context. Social studies is defined by the American National Council for Social Studies as "the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence." In other words, social studies basically seeks to arm American citizens with knowledge about the world, nation and society around them, through the help of other disciplines as well such as political science, history, economics, religion, geography, anthropology, as well as psychology. With such knowledge, children and young adults may better understand and make informed decisions about civic issues that affect them and their families as well, especially when they grow older. Such issues include health care, crime, migration, foreign policy, and the like.
Demography and social statistics, methods and computing Demography is the study of populations and population changes and trends, using resources such as statistics of births, deaths and disease. Social statistics, methods and computing involves the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative social science data. Development studies, human geography and environmental planning Development studies is a multidisciplinary branch of the social sciences which addresses a range of social and economic issues related to developing or low-income countries. Human geography studies the world, its people, communities and cultures, and differs from physical geography mainly in that it focuses on human activities and their impact - for instance on environmental change. Environmental planning explores the decision-making processes for managing relationships within and between human systems and natural systems, in order to manage these processes in an effective, transparent and equitable manner. Economics, managementandbusinessstudies Economics seeks to understand how individuals interact within the social structure, to address key questions about the production and exchange of goods and services. Management and business studies explores a wide range of aspects relating to the activities and management of business, such as strategic and operational management, organisational psychology, employment relations, marketing, accounting, finance and logistics. Education, socialanthropology, andlinguistics Education is one of the most important social sciences, exploring how people learn and develop. Social anthropology is the study of how human societies and social structures are organised and understood. Linguistics focuses on language and how people communicate through spoken sounds and words. Law, economicandsocialhistory Law focuses on the rules created by governments and people to ensure a more orderly society. Economic and social history looks at past events to learn from history and better understand the processes of contemporary society. Politicsandinternationalrelations Politics focuses on democracy and the relationship between people and policy, at all levels up from the individual to a national and international level. International relations is the study of relationships between countries, including the roles of other organisations. Psychologyandsociology Psychology studies the human mind and try to understand how people and groups experience the world through various emotions, ideas, and conscious states. Sociology involves groups of people, rather than individuals, and attempts to understand the way people relate to each other and function as a society or social sub-groups. Scienceandtechnologystudies Science and technology studies is concerned with what scientists do, what their role is in our society, the history and culture of science, and the policies and debates that shape our modern scientific and technological world. Socialpolicyandsocialwork Social policy is an interdisciplinary and applied subject concerned with the analysis of societies' responses to social need, focusing on aspects of society, economy and policy that are necessary to human existence, and how these can be provided. Social work focuses on social change, problem-solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance social justice. What is your area of study? It is the primary science that yields a greater understanding of the universe as a whole. It also presents theoretical and applied frameworks that are the most complex for study in the world (relativity, quantum mechanics, dark matter, etc). It has also been shown that students who study and succeed in studying physics at university are ranked as having the highest IQ in their class, meaning their minds are predisposed to solving bigger and more complex problems than the rest. Lastly, this subject is also the most existentially relevant since, in the future, as A.I. and Machines encroach on the work responsibilities of human beings, the most important function of the human mind will be the creative, theoretical, problem-solving capabilities that can be applied to an understanding of the unknown. From micro to macroscopic point of view, you cannot have elements (chemistry) or molecules (biology) without fundamental matter (physics). Similarly, biology and chemistry will never be adequate to understand the origins or functions of the universe. Physics even sits as an underlying science for Computer Science in that, at the level of a transistor, open/close gates are simply accepting electrical current. Download 27.44 Kb.
