he world of three- to six-year-olds has expanded enormously. They have
learned many fundamental skills. Their
bodies follow their mental
instructions; they know how to interpret sensory information. They
have the beginnings of a social awareness and a concept of space, time,
and sequences. Their social and physical world and
their sense of what is out
there have enlarged far beyond what is in their home and neighborhood to
include their community and even a sense of the
bigger world beyond what
they’ve seen.
The games in this part of the book reinforce this new awareness while still
helping children pay attention to what is immediately in front of them.
