On the Academic Achievement
Various studies have confirmed that, children’s’ academic achievement is related to many factors such as: parents educational level, socio-economic background of the parents of a particular child, effective teaching and learning process, teaching and facilities and equipment, attendance of both teachers and pupils, language of instruction and many more. However, (Lodriguez, L.K. 2017), identified the following as the factors associated with academic achievement thus:
Teacher and classroom characteristics
School characteristics and
Student and family characteristics
Children who are not reading on grade level by the end of third grade are more likely to struggle in all of their academic subjects year after year. More than 85 percent of today’s curriculum is taught by reading, whether they’re learning math, science or history, students get the bulk of their information from books, online resources, worksheets and whiteboard lessons. Many research findings showed that children who are behind their peers in reading are more likely to struggle with low self-esteem and feelings of adequacy than their peers who read well, (Kathy B., 2019).
