RESEARCH - 2022 257 In my research work, I assessed left-handedness in two ways in children aged 3 to 5 over the course of a month. In the first case, I asked a question that I fixed on paper. In the second case, I asked children and adults to perform an action in front of me. This action is called a test. When examining a child, especially at the age of 3 to 5 years, tests had to be used, since could not answer the questions himself. But there is a temptation to ask parents to complete the questionnaire for their child and then discuss the results with them. At first glance, this should not lead to errors, since parents should know their child better than others. But this is too misleading. Questionnaires are convenient for me because answering questions is easier and faster than doing a sufficient number of the same type of tests. Moreover, people can fill out the questionnaire at home when it is convenient, and the tests had to be performed in front of me, for which I had to carve out a time. By offering questionnaires, I appeal to a person's self-esteem or to a parent's view of their child. However, both the first and the second do not always correspond to what an independent observer sees, and can lead to false conclusions. During the survey, it turned out that among those who consider themselves right-handed, there are many left-handers and ambidexters. The fact is that over trained left-handers often forget about the fact of retraining and identify themselves with right-handers, not paying attention to which hand they perform actions that are not controlled by society (thread a needle, wring out laundry, brush their teeth). Relying solely on the fact that they write with their right hand, they extend this to the rest of their actions. So, more than 30% of the parents to whom I informed about the left-handedness of the child did not know about it. I used the "Napoleon pose" and the "clasp of the fingers" to test children. "Napoleon pose". A sitting or standing child was offered to cross his arms over his chest, for which I very quickly did it myself and immediately spread my arms. We can say that this is the pose of Napoleon. It was necessary to observe how the test is performed. The younger the child was, the less accurately he performed it. If he only presses his hands to his chest, then once again I quickly showed, emphasizing that his arms should be crossed. The hand that first lies on the chest is considered to be the leading one (and not the hand that is on top). The location of the hands is also not taken into account, since children can remove both hands or, on the contrary, leave both. After the child completed the test, I asked |
