This is the reason why the above-mentioned projects like TAPI, CASAREM, and Trans-
Afghan transport corridor could not be materialized till now.
Uzbekistan sees Pakistan as a more stable partner than its alternatives, Iran and 
Turkmenistan. However, on diversifying opportunities, Bandar Abbas seaport and potentially 
Chabahar ports in Iran are also of same importance.
Regional cooperation in Eurasia can become an important factor in the maintenance 
of peace and security in the region, which are necessary for stable economic growth and 
development. Regional organizations need to concentrate first of all on further regional 
integration in Central Asia itself and to be adequate for the increased processes of 
globalization. Also, it is necessary for the Central Asian nations to create a regional security 
system in Central Asia, which should include all dimensions 
– political, military, economic, 
ecological and others. The stability and security in Central Asia affects the direction of 
integration, the patterns of regional cooperation and the building of institutions.
In the condition of Great Game where interests of China, Russia and the USA in this 
region came together, India has made efforts to build multi-vector cooperation with Central 
Asian Countries in terms of energy security. Oil and natural gas energy is a catalyst factor 
and a necessary condition but not sufficient for ensuring comprehensive engagement 
between India and Central Asian states. Also India may have to increase investment in joint 
ventures in Central Asian states, hence Indian experience in the spheres such as IT parks; 
banking, pharmaceutical, small and medium enterprises help these countries in economic 
strategy.
International conference on the theme “Central and South Asia: regional connectivity 
– challenges and opportunities” held on July in Tashkent focused on the main strategic 
directions in order to mitigate socio-economic impacts and recover better from crisis and 
strengthen sustainable regional connectivity. The main strategic dimensions are: transport 
and trade; energy; and digital connectivity.
As emphasized on the conference, the major areas of cooperation between Central 
and South Asia should focus on the followings:
