They would go and find mentors, teachers and role models who had already learned what they want to learn, and modelled their success. Meanwhile, nowadays, too many people attempt to figure it out by themselves. They attempt to teach themselves a topic or skill, when in fact, the faster, easier, more effective approach is to find others who have already succeeded at learning that topic or skill & model their success. Modelling is all about learning from the best. No matter whether you are learning a new sport, a new business strategy, new musical instrument or new topic, the key is to find people who have already learned that topic or skill, observe them and learn from them. Watch what they are doing… watch how they are doing it… start to deconstruct the steps they take and apply those same steps into your learning. ONE LINE SUMMARY: ‘Don’t attempt to figure it out alone. Find people who have already learned it & model them.’ YOUR PERSONAL INSIGHTS: (This is a section for you to write out any learnings or new actions you want to take from each step) After reading this step, I will… #2: FALL IN LOVE WITH FEEDBACK Feedback - also known as constructive criticism - is fuel for growth and learning. Feedback is also, often, the thing that we don’t want to hear (but need to.) To learn faster, instead of avoiding feedback, or taking it personally, fall in love with it. Feedback can come in many forms: a suggestion (e.g. from a co-worker), a complaint (e.g. from a customer), advice (e.g. from a boss or mentor), etc. Your role is to, no matter where you receive that feedback from, find ways you can use it to improve what you do. The second part of this step is also critically important. Simply accepting feedback, when it’s given to you, isn’t the same thing as falling in love with feedback. Big difference. Falling in love with feedback is about you going out there and actively seeking feedback . It’s a mindset. It’s all about your willingness to constantly ask your friends, family, mentors, coaches, teachers, etc for feedback. Constantly ask them ‘’What can I do to get better?’’ David Copperfield, one of the world’s greatest illusionists, couldn’t find anyone else, so he once asked a janitor for feedback for one of his magic tricks. David Copperfield, very early on, fell in love with feedback and it helped him master his craft. Feedback can help you learn anything many times faster, but you have to be willing to go out and seek it. ONE LINE SUMMARY: Download 218.56 Kb. Do'stlaringiz bilan baham: |
