Research methods. To complete the dissertation were used methods such as cognitive modeling, conceptual-derivative analysis, comparative-typological, statistical, cognitive-semantic methods were used.
The scientific novelty of the work: The scientific novelty of the study lies in the use of a cognitive-discursive approach to the study of compound words in modern English. For the first time, the definition of structurally motivated and structurally unmotivated compound words is given, taking into account the cognitive aspect.
The material of the research: The material of the study was English compound words (more than 2670 units), collected by English and American fiction, lexicographic sources (etymological dictionaries, dictionaries of new words).
Scientific and practical significance of the research results. The study contributes to the comparative linguistics in the cognitive aspect, the results of the work enrich linguistics with scientific and theoretical knowledge about the status of verbalization in compounding in the language system, reveal the cognitive foundations, national and cultural features of compound words in English. The methods used in the work contribute to the further expansion of the principles of the study of compound word in comparative and cognitive linguistics. The theoretical conclusions presented in the dissertation can serve as a scientific basis for further research in highlighting the functional-semantic and cognitive properties of compound words in the English and Uzbek languages.
The results of the study can be used as a practical guide for students of philological faculties, researchers and translators; the research materials can be used in the preparation of lecture texts in such disciplines as comparative linguistics, lexicology, cognitive linguistics.
The structure of the work. Dissertation work consists of introduction, three chapters, conclusion and the list of used literatures.
