Slide 20 Activity 5: T/F -- Video. Giving Clear Instructions for Forming Groups Before playing the video, explain that the Mentees will watch the video and take a quiz. Mentees should take notes so they can do well on the quiz. Ask true-false questions using thumbs up/thumbs down. Use long sentences to give instructions. (F) Check students’ understanding of instructions. (T) Model conversations so students can understand the task and hear examples of the language. (T) After dividing students into groups, remind them about the task before they begin working. (T) Using gestures and body language can make instructions clearer. Slide 21 Here is a way to remember how to write clear instructions: KISSSS Tell mentees that an easy way to think about questions is to KISSSSS them. Write KISSSSS on board K=keep I= instructions S=short S=simple S=specific S= show: demonstrate what you want students to do S= steps (Steps means that we break instructions up into parts. DO not give instructions all at once.) You can find this information in your Mentee Workbook. Use this strategy when revising instructions today.
