TIPS FOR RPMS
Slide 4
Welcome
Introduce yourself to your mentees
Personal information – name, school
Why the CoP is important to you
How long you have been teaching
Your future goals
Slide 5 – Activity 1
Mentee Introductions:
RPM choice: Choose a game (e.g., Ball Toss, Find Someone Who, or other game) to help mentees learn more about each other and you.
Slide 6
Today’s schedule. Quickly review the schedule (on powerpoint slide or in Mentee Workbook).
Slide 7 – Today’s Content
Slide 8 -- Session 1 Morning Objectives
Remind mentees that you want them to have the “big picture” of the intensive week. They will learn how to use the CoP resources as they need them.
Slide 9 -- What is a Community of Practice?
It is a group of people who:
Share common interests and concerns
Find solutions and support each other
Share best practices and create new knowledge to increase student learning
Work together over a long period of time
Slide 10 – What does ESN’s CoP3 look like?
RPM conducts 6 6-hour CoP sessions over the course of one week
Slide 11 – What mentees & RPMs will do
Mentees will conduct 3 observations using CoP observation protocols and rubrics in September
Observe master class videos
Conduct a self-observation
Conduct a peer observation
Complete the Community of Practice Checklist (submit to RPM)
RPM will conduct 1 observation of each mentee using the CoP Observation Rubric.
Slide 12 – What RPM will do
Don’t worry, we will discuss these activities in more detail. Right now, we want to give you the big picture.
Slide 13 – You (Mentees) should download the TESOL’s 6Ps and TETE Modules to your electronic devices. The QR codes are in the Mentee Workbook. This is important so you can review the information during and after the CoP, use activities from the resources, and keep information after the CoP has ended.
Slides 14-15 –6Ps/TETE Training
During our intensive CoP week of training, we will have sessions on TESOL’s 6Ps or TETE content
You will show and share ideas on how to apply TESOL’s 6Ps and/or TETE content.
Slide 16 – Reminder about ESN CoP3 Attendance Policy
Mentees can miss 4 hours of CoP training.
Mentees can complete missed content:
TETE – Watch videos they missed online, complete the “Reflect” questions at the bottom of the website page, and submit responses to RPM.
CoP – Watch videos, complete Handouts/Resources activities, and submit responses to RPM.
