2.2 Educational and developmental goals of EL teaching and learning
Practical and cultural goals are closely related to education, as FLL develops moral and aesthetic education. Teachers and Methodists pay great attention to educational opportunities in the process of education and training. The linguistic aspect of foreign language material is of great importance: texts, exercises, ostensive and audiovisual materials are used in class, extracurricular and independent education.12
The purpose of education is to develop individuals who adhere to certain moral principles, who value knowledge and learning, who can think and learn for themselves.
We know that learning is a function of total participation, the result of an interactive process with students and teachers, and the outcome of such interaction is affected. Thus, learning FL increases students' mental powers, sharpens their minds, develops their intelligence and contributes to their overall outlook.
Language experience in the classroom should be functional. Language use and learning must meet meaningful and understandable goals for learners. Repeated exposure to classic literature increases students' sensitivity to social, cultural dynamics, and emotional needs of others. The teacher's role and attitude should be consistent with the educational goals. Here, "Conformity" is trust, that is, respect for the opinions of students, striving for justice. "Conformity" here is between having a rule and applying it equally to everyone, including one's own.
Learning objectives can be achieved in the following ways:
- selection of language material;
- successful organization and conduct of an English language lesson and effective coordination of its main components;
- selection of visual aids;
- manners and appearance of the teacher;
- teaching students to work independently with the book, that is, to work independently.
The development goal of English language teaching has recently been accepted as a scientific category in the FLT methodology. However, it is very difficult to find relevant study materials related to this purpose. There is a brief description of the purpose of development in the book written by G.V. Rogova and I.N. Just give it.
The main idea of the development goal is how to teach the student:
- development of creative, intellectual and cognitive abilities of students;
- development of various types of memory (visual/audio, short/long-term, voluntary/involuntary), attention, skills necessary for creative activity;
- development of forecasting, forecasting, evaluation, etc. mechanisms;
- development of initiative and logical thinking of students. These are the ability to initiate, continue and end communication.
Learning FL leads to new horizons of linguistic competence, where graphic, phonetic, lexical and grammatical elements come into play. This kind of teaching develops the logical thinking of students, because the acquisition of knowledge is related to categories such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, deduction. They have a direct impact on the development of memory, because students need to remember words, phrases, lists of expressions, sentence construction models, as well as their use in communication.
Books and textbooks provide ample opportunities for students to develop their gnostic abilities. They learn a lot of interesting things about countries, cities, events, historical places, schools, customs, holidays and famous people (state, public figures, travelers) and more.
Properly organized, teacher-directed and self-directed goal-directed activities provide motivation - positive interest, desire and greater willingness to learn FL.
The goal of development suggests the development of language intuition, language assessment, memory, logic (analysis, synthesis, comparison, emotional perception, motivational sphere, communicative abilities; individual qualities such as diligence, will, purposefulness and activity).13
