Daniel Defoe’s writing style and literary qualities of his masterpieces brought praiseworthy changes in the global English literature years later him. Daniel Defoe's novels are a capstone in the history of the English novel. Unlike the English works before, Defoe told completely new tales based on the lives of original characters. Many of Defoe's novels use realistic fiction, a fictional story that uses realistic elements. Oftentimes he even used the pen name of the titular character to make it seem more realistic. His stories were so detailed that many readers believed them to be true. His novels pull from a lot of real-life events he would have heard about in the news, which gave him realistic elements to pull from. Inspiration from Defoe's original writings can still be seen in his novels through the topics of religion and politics.
