A partner organisation with Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Royal Ballet, dx is dedicated to creating exciting opportunities for people of all walks of life to engage in dance, either as participant, performer or audience member. Sunday MAILING LIST TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR CLASS & WORKSHOP BOOKINGS Bookings for classes will be allocated on a strictly ‘first come, first served’ basis. All dance classes are limited to 30 students. After that we can offer you a place on a reserve list or advise you about classes at a different level. If you have to withdraw from the course for any reason after you have made the booking with us, you must let us know immediately so that we can re-allocate your place. If we are unable to re-sell your place and you cannot find a replacement yourself, we will be unable to refund your booking fee. If you leave a class once the course has begun (for any reason) we will not refund your class fee. With this production, Jesús Fernández expresses the human struggle to overcome the control that emotion has over us. This journey begins with an exploration of the nature of emotion itself: how it feels to be subjected to its high and lows, the often absurd situations we find ourselves in once the emotional impulse disappears, and the emotional traps we lay along the way. Jesús Fernández has won several dance awards in his home country for both his performance and choreography. This new show promises to be a fantastic evening of fiery Spanish music and dance. ANA GARCIA Born in Valdepeñas, La Mancha, Ana started her dance studies at an early age when she attended classes at her local dance school. She took her exams in Classical Ballet and Spanish dance at Malaga’s Conservatoire, later on realising she wanted to make Flamenco her career. She then embarked on her committed studies with some of the great names of Flamenco – Maria Magdalena, La Chiqui de Jerez, Adrian Galia, Rafaela Carrasco and Eva La Yerbabuena – in Madrid, Seville and Jerez. Ana has been teaching successfully in England since 1993, with a wealth of experience with adults and children. In great demand as a teacher, she has been a regular guest teacher at Birmingham University (drama & dance department), and in Chester, London, Banbury, Gloucester, Bristol, Nottingham, Derby and Birmingham. JESÚS FERNÁNDEZ Jesús Fernández was born in 1982 in Cádiz. Taught by Mario Maya and Antonio Canales, among others, he has danced in numerous flamenco venues in Madrid and Andalusia, and in El Flamenco (Tokyo, Japan). He has also taken part in Flamenco festivals alongside artists such as Aurora Vargas and Capullo de Jerez. In 1999, he won the National Flamenco dance prize sponsored by The Estepona Flamenco society in Malaga. In 2003, he was awarded the freestyle dance award from the La Perla de Cádiz Flamenco dance society for the best choreography in the National Alegrías dance prize. Most recently he became a member of Rafaela Carrasco’s Flamenco dance company.
