Read or listen the rhymes and practice
-stressed sounds (they are l-o-n-g-e-r than other sounds) and reduced sounds.
-with rubber in your hands stretch with each stressed sound
-practice saying the poems together, using the stress pattern
Work as whole class, teacher will give you a jump rope. What you are supposed to do is read the rhymes, learn by heart and jump a rope.
Different pronunciation sound for plurals and regular past tense verbs:
[s]- cents, splits
[z]- boys, girls, stairs, apples, pears
[-iz]- pieces, inches, dishes, peaches, coaches
[t]-bumped, washed
[d] – called
Home task: find any poem in English and practice reading it with appropriate word stress and prominence.

Activity 1. Work with small groups and do the following tasks related to the poem by Wendy Cope.

1. 
   Men and Their Boring Arguments is a poem by Wendy Cope. Before you read, predict what ‘male’ characteristics will be described in the poem.

   Read the poem quickly. Were your predictions correct? Is the poet’s tone serious, good-humored, critical or a combination of these?
   

3. 
   Which verse of the poem expresses the following ideas? Write the number of the verse in the box.

Wendy Соре gave up a teaching career to dedicate herself to writing and quickly became one of the few living poets to feature in the best-sellers lists. This poem is a fine example of the way she uses her humor to make a serious point, and was recorded during a 1988 edition of 'Poetry Now'.
