DRESS CODE PHILOSOPHY Having a dress code reminds students that school is an environment requiring habits and attitudes that may be different from those applicable during their free time. Clothing may reflect individual taste, but must also be in keeping with traditional standards of neatness, cleanliness, and modesty. It is the expectation of the Upper School that every Flint Hill family will respect the spirit…as well as the letter of our dress code.
Dress Code Clothing should fit properly and present a “put together” look. Baggy, dirty, wrinkled or torn articles of clothing are inappropriate, as are excessively tight, see-‐through, or otherwise revealing outfits
Acceptable Daily Dress Code Pants – BOYS AND GIRLS • Full length, properly hemmed Chino/Khaki style dress pants ONLY (no rivets; no skinny styles) • Belts (for boys only) • No denim of any color
• Knee-‐length or longer skirts • No denim of any color
Shirts – BOYS and GIRLS Prior to Homecoming and after Spring Break • Collared Polo shirt or Collared Oxford Style dress shirt buttoned to the neckline (tucked in for boys; ties not required)
• Collared Oxford Style dress shirt buttoned to the neckline (tucked in and ties for boys only) All Year • No visible t-‐shirts, camisoles or undergarments • No midriff visible when arms are lifted above the head
• Must have a back (around the heel) • No slippers or flip-‐flops of any kind
UPPER SCHOOL DRESS CODE Accessories for Boys and Girls • No visible piercing other than ears; boys may only wear stud earrings • No distracting hairstyle or color • No facial hair • No hats or hoods worn in building • No references to drugs, alcohol, weapons or anything else otherwise offensive
• Sweater (cardigan, pullover, quarter-‐zip) worn over a visible dress code shirt • Non-‐hooded FHS sweatshirt or jacket over a visible dress code shirt
• Any hooded sweatshirts and/or jackets • Non-‐FHS coats, jackets, fleece and/or sweatshirts
Husky dress may be allowed in support of special activities; however, clothing must still be in keeping with traditional standards of neatness, cleanliness and modesty. Specific guidelines for Husky Dress will be determined and communicated by the SCA. Formal Dress (by announcement only) There will be occasions when students are asked to be in more formal attire. Girls’ formal dress consists of a dress or blouse and skirt or dress pants in a formal style. Boys should wear a shirt and tie and dress pants with a sport jacket or blazer, or a suit.
