Dear Family

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES 2017

In accordance with the School Education Regulations 2000, I am required to inform you

of the financial costs you can expect for your child’s schooling throughout 2017.  Also in

keeping  with  these  Regulations,  this  Schedule  of  Contributions  and  Charges  was

presented to and endorsed by the East Butler School Board in October 2016.

This  Schedule  is  presented  in  three  sections  so  that  you  are  able  to  have  a  clear

understanding of these costs.

Section  1  of  this  schedule  does  not  apply  to  those  students  who  pay  full  fees  in

accordance with the conditions of their Australian entry visa.  Visa holders that fees are

applicable to are advised to contact Education and Training International (ETI), a group

that manages fee paying students on behalf of the Department of Education.

1.  SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS (VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS)

In  2016,  the  School  Contribution  is  $60  per  child.  This  is  a  ‘one-off’  payment.  Money

collected will be used to supplement expenditure in the areas listed below. Payment of

the School Contribution is voluntary, however the areas listed below will be enhanced if

each family makes its contribution.

Purchase of

  Reading resources

   Maths resources

  ICT equipment

You are encouraged to pay the School Contribution as early as possible in 2017, as this

assists  considerably  with  planning  the  school’s  budget  and  making  decisions  about

purchases  in  three  areas  listed.

East Butler School Board is very keen to see the

average voluntary contribution collection rate of 57% be significantly improved upon in

2016.

2.  CHARGES FOR EXTRA OPTIONAL COMPONENTS OF THE EDUCATIONAL

PROGRAM

As  has  been  the  case  this  year,  your  child  will  continue  to  be  offered  opportunities  to

participate  in  a  range  of  school  activities  and  events.  Some  of  these  may  involve  a

payment  being  requested  from  you.  Those  events  that  your  child  may  be  offered  the

opportunity to participate in, and the anticipated costs of the event, are outlined in the

following table. I’d like to make you aware of these points:

  You will only incur a payment if your child is involved in a particular event or

activity.

U:\east_butler_ps\2016_11_17\3\docs\schedule_of_contributions_and_charges_2017.doc

  Like  this  year,  if  a  payment  is  to  be  requested,  this  shall  be  done  for  the

activity/event as it approaches - this is a ‘pay as you go’ system. A note or letter

will usually be sent home that describes the activity, requests the payment and

seeks your consent for your child to participate.

  Those amounts set out in the table are the anticipated maximum costs for the

activity/event  and  this  maximum  amount  may  not  have  to  be  requested  in  all

situations.

  The  figure  shown  for  the  year  for  Incursions  and  Excursions  is  a  total;  for

example, if you have a child in Year 6, you can expect that maximum total you

would pay for your child to participate in Excursions during 2017 is $50.



East Butler School Board would like you to be mindful that your school offers a

significant number of activities and events at no cost to families, as the school

makes the commitment to heavily subsidize as many activities as possible. Our

aim is for all students to participate in every activity.

Additionally, other activities may arise from time-to-time that your child may be offered

that are conducted during school time, with my approval, and the cost involved goes to

the body or group organizing the event. Examples in this area include:

  Competitions where there is a fee payable to enter (for example Westpac Maths

Competition with a $5 entry fee or PEAC testing for Year 4 students- $1.50).

  School photos (average price around $15 for packages).

  ‘Free Dress’ days, where a gold coin donation may be collected for a particular

charity.

  Activities such as cake raffles conducted at recess and lunch times (tickets are

20c each, 3 for 50c or 6 for $1).

  Book Fair, where you may purchase books for your child (average price around

$15).

  Book Club - brochures are sent home regularly for these; costs will vary.

  Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) courses for eligible Years 5-6

students.

  Activities associated with particular school programs (for example the School

Chaplain’s Operation Christmas Child).

  Also, after school activities such as sports programs that may be presented by a

local sporting club (for example dancing).  Costs will vary.

  School of Instrumental Music (SIM) - In 2017, selected students will be offered

the opportunity to learn an instrument through free lessons offered by a SIM

tutor. If families exercise this option, the student is required to purchase a guitar.

  School play, production or event where there is a cost for tickets.

3.  ITEM FOR PERSONAL USE IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

(PERSONAL ITEMS LISTS)

Your child’s Personal Items List for 2017 was distributed in Term 4.  This list outlines the

items  that  your  child  will  require  that  are  considered  essential  (for  example;  pencils,

pens,  glue,  ruler)  and  those  items  that  are  recommended  but  not  essential;  these  are

listed in the box headed ‘Parents Are Requested To Supply’.

Campion  offer  this  personal  items  list  service  on  behalf  of  the  school.  The  prices  for

materials  provided  by  Campion  are  competitive

but you are under no obligation

whatsoever to use this service.

Your  child  will  need  to  have  the  listed  materials  each  school  day  and  as  a  number  of

these are consumable, it may be necessary to replace some of these items throughout

the year. You can also, if you choose, pay the School Contribution of $60 per child at

this time. Campion collect this on the school’s behalf.

I  trust  that  this  schedule  assists  you  to  develop  a  full  understanding  of  the  potential

costs  associated  with  your  child’s  schooling  throughout  2017.  I’d  welcome  your

questions and be pleased to clarify any issues you may have.

I look forward to your continued strong support of our fantastic school as we enter our

tenth year of operation in 2017.

Yours sincerely
